Saints grab hold of first place

ATLANTA -- Their coach was back at his familiar spot on the sidelines Sunday, and now the New Orleans Saints are back in their familiar spot: Firmly atop the NFC South Division.

With Sean Payton on crutches on the sideline for the first time since tearing up his leg a month ago in a sideline collision, the Saints came into the Georgia Dome and took a strong hold of the division race with a 26-23 overtime victory over the Atlanta Falcons.

The Saints are now 7-3 heading into the bye week. What has to be even more encouraging is that a defense that had been struggling, especially on the road, played better -- although that unit did make it interesting late when the Falcons moved to a game-tying field goal in the final seconds.

The defense made a huge stop on a fourth-and-inches play from the Atlanta 30 in overtime to get the ball back for the game-winning field goal.

Saints grab hold of first place

The whole game was filled with bogus calls. Most of it against the Saints. As usual the Saints had to play against a bias. These tic-tac calls need to either end or start going both ways. Especially the personal foul and interference calls.

Saints grab hold of first place

As a Saints fan I was pissed at the playcalling at times and thought for sure we has gift wrapped and hand delivered a falcons win. Had we not gained a W here would have been a long bye week. I'll take it and thanks Coach Smith, fourth and inches at your own 29 in O/T, you displayed a total lack of confidence in your D and it will have a risidual effect, mark my words, for the remainder of the season. GTG Saints lets take this division and start working on home field.

Should have never gone into OT. The call on the FG against Graham was completely bogus and the Saints should have been up by 6. Still, it was a great win. They'll be kicking themselves for a while on that 4th and inches call. As a Saints fan, it doesn't get any better than that.
