Raiders make another mistake

Posted on: January 10, 2012 2:53 pm

Firing Hue Jackson is a mistake by the Oakland Raiders.

Do we expect anything other than that?

Jackson had one year to show what kind of head coach he could be, and then he's gone? I know he might not be the handpicked choice of new general manager Reggie McKenzie, and I know he can be volatile and outspoken, but did he really get a fair shake?

The Raiders missed the playoffs at 8-8, but they had a ton of injuries decimate the speed on offense in the final six weeks. That showed up. It's why Carson Palmer never looked like the player the Raiders expected he would look like when they traded premium draft picks to land him.

Yes, the Raiders led the NFL in penalties, but when have they not?

Jackson deserved at least another year. I don't know he would have turned into John Madden or Tom Flores or any of the other successful Raiders coach. But he needed at least another year to show if could have done so.

To borrow from Raiders-speak: Just stupid, baby.

Wrong

Short sighted blurb by Prisco. This is about moving on from Al Davis' outdated and idiosyncratic ways. Time to clean house. Prisco is chirping in from the cheap seats, doesn't know / understand the big picture, apparently.

Raiders make another mistake

Intereseting the comments about this McKenzie fella... did you see his press conference announcing the change? He can't put three words together and now he is the architect ? ? Craaaazy. Of course Jackson was throwin plaayers under bus in public, but not by name. How else do these millionaires feel accountable? Social media is the only way to call them out so their rep is in question and they put their head down and dig. He wasn't deflecting blame as much as trying to motivate the unmotivateable...

Raiders make another mistake

Phew, as a Raiders fan, Prisco's indictment of the move makes me feel better. I wonder if Pete saw that press conference where he threw everyone under the bus? The guy was a nutter. Good move.

Raiders make another mistake

If I were the new GM, I would have fired him in a second just based on that crazy press conference he had after the last game. A coach needs to be responsible for his team, not throw them under the bus

Raiders make another mistake

Here are my valid points to why he needed to go..1st of all since when does a head coach fighting for their playoff hopes allow a cmera to come in and watch him getting a pedicure which happened about 3 weeks ago; 2nd when you lose your star RB (McFadden), starting QB (J. Campbell) and the rest of the injuries that hurt heir offense the last thing one should do is panic and mortgage their future; 3rd Allowing McClain to suit up and play the same week he was arrested for holding a gun to someone's head shows weakness and if those 3 points aren't enough then his closing statements at his last press conference, throwing his team under the bus was the cherry.

Raiders make another mistake

Broncos fans always love seeing the Raiders do dumb things.  Any real football fan knows that had Darren McFadden not been lost due to injury the Raiders would have made the playoffs and been a force to reckon with.  Firing Hue Jackson just throws the raider organization back into turmoil.  Guess they must like it that way over in Jokeland!

Raiders make another mistake

The late owner and the Raiders teams of the past two decades have brought this great franchise down.  All AFC West fans delight in seeing this stuff out of Oakland...

Raiders make another mistake

Shocking, but I disagree with Petey. He is the last mistake from Al. If he was the guy, he would have had at least a modicum of success in discipline (ie, less penalties), and given the position they were in, won the AFC west instead of flailing at the end like all Raider teams of the past 10years. Clean house, start over. Good call Raiders. Now that isn't said very often.

Raiders make another mistake

Sure, in a vacuum, one year is not an ideal interval for a HC to prove oneself, but I can clearly see the possibility that the qualified Reggie McKenzie just wanted to turn the page on the past & begin anew.  No need for anything akin to the '2010 Eric Mangini Browns' or anything like that & frankly most Oakland fans probably welcome the fact that there is a competent, hungry personnel man in the front office for probably the first time since former Al Davis confidant Bruce Allen departed in the mid aughts.
