Raiders make another mistake

Firing Hue Jackson is a mistake by the Oakland Raiders.

Do we expect anything other than that?

Jackson had one year to show what kind of head coach he could be, and then he's gone? I know he might not be the handpicked choice of new general manager Reggie McKenzie, and I know he can be volatile and outspoken, but did he really get a fair shake?

The Raiders missed the playoffs at 8-8, but they had a ton of injuries decimate the speed on offense in the final six weeks. That showed up. It's why Carson Palmer never looked like the player the Raiders expected he would look like when they traded premium draft picks to land him.

Yes, the Raiders led the NFL in penalties, but when have they not?

Jackson deserved at least another year. I don't know he would have turned into John Madden or Tom Flores or any of the other successful Raiders coach. But he needed at least another year to show if could have done so.

To borrow from Raiders-speak: Just stupid, baby.

Raiders make another mistake

Jackson threw his players under tha bus after the last game. You don't do that in the media. Rip them behind closed doors if they deserve it...and they probably did. But never, never do it in public, especially in a way that says, 'hey, it ain't my fault, it's all on these guys". As HC, you are ALWAYS part of the problem. You share the glory; you share the blame. What Jackson did was bush league.
McKenzie is steeped in the "Packer way". The Packers are one of the league's most respected organizations. He'll bring some sanity to Oakland. First up....find a HC who accepts responsibility and accountability.

Raiders make another mistake

I fail to see how firing the coach whose team just set the NFL record for penalties could be a bad move.

Reggie McKenzie knows what he is doing a ell of a lot more than these writers do. Trust me.

Raiders make another mistake

Its not really his fault for McFaggen and Bush to lame up and not play. Hugh didnt reach on BEy-Hayworthless. Hugh did not load up on sketchy character at receiver... However Palmer off the couch despite all this hit 300yds several times - new to the QB position in Oak town for a decade or so. Is Jason Cambell the answer - uhhhhh... its a bad move and most disrespectful to Al Davis not giving him AT LEAST another year... let the front office inmates run the asylum, it ain't the players

I AM A RAIDERS FAN FOR LIFE AND I TEND TO SEE THIS AS WE NEED A CHANGE FROM ALS PHILOSOPHY BUT FOR YOU TO THINK HUE SCREWED US BY "mortgaging" the potential crappy draftpicks we wouldve taken with the palmer picks youre dead wrong, the guy was a tlop 5 qb 2 yrs ago and with the talent we have, with a full year he will be what we thought he was and more, have some raider pride im sick of all these so called oakland fans turning on our team.....get on or GET OUT

Raiders make another mistake

Just when you think it's safe to read another Prisco write-up, and just when you think he can't get any dumber than he is, wallah! here he goes again, he unredeems himself.

This is absolutely the right move and, yes, it's very Raider like.  Hugh Jackson just set this team back at least 5-7 years the way he mortgaged the house on Palmer. And he did so in grand fashion: sitting home this year watching the playoffs.  Does Prisco understand this? I don't think so.  Any man that goes to Vegas and puts his entire bankroll on one hand needs to be committed...or fired!  Hugh Jackson knew exactly what the chances were of his keeping his job had this Palmer experiment not worked. He gambled, he lost.  No way you allow this man to coach this team next year and continue to deteriorate the team. Stupid is as stupid does. At the end of the day, the same argument Prisco makes stating  "...but they had a ton of injuries decimate the speed on offense in the final six weeks. That showed up." is exactly the reson (or excuse) that might have kept Jackson as their coach had he NOT mortgaged the team.  And to say "It's why  never looked like the player the Raiders expected he would look like when they traded premium draft picks to land him." is simply absurd! Carson Palmer never looked like what they expected for two reasons: 1) Carson Palmer is NOT the player he used to be, 2) Carson Palmer came in fresh off of sitting on his couch for almost a year. Sorry Prisco, it's you that's "just stupid, baby!"

Raiders make another mistake

Jackson believes that Mark Davis made the decision to fire him based on a conversation that took place over a week ago. Jackson voiced his concerns about not being involved in the G.M. search before the season-ending loss to the Chargers. Davis rebuffed him.

“I gave him three opportunities to give me a vote of confidence, and he didn’t give me one. He said nothing,” Jackson said.

- This was Jackson's words. This just shows the ego on this guy. He gave the OWNER three chances!!! Who the hell thinks they have the right to pick their own boss? This egomaniac, with an almost non-existent resume, sealed his own fate and if he doesn't shut up soon, no one will give him another chance. A rookie coach who went from 7-4 to 8-8, then wanted more power and the ability to choose his own boss. WOW!

Raiders make another mistake

Totally the right move.  Questionable choices of coaching staff.  Questionable play calling (too much pass with a new QB when not trailing).  Questionable clock management.  Throws players under the bus for failing when coaches put them in a position to fail.  Team lacked discipline (goes to the coach).  And was power hungry, even though he didn't have the resume to demand power.  Goodbye.  Good luck.  Good riddance.  Go Raiders.

Raiders make another mistake

Why did Jackson deserve another year?  Why should the Raiders be set another year back playing out the string with him?  He didn't do a good job as a head coach, he isn't wanted by the new GM and he's never lasted more than three years with any team he's been with as a coach in the NFL.  Whatever the reason is that he gets canned there is a history there that he wears out his welcome fast.
