Raiders make another mistake

Posted on: January 10, 2012 2:53 pm

Firing Hue Jackson is a mistake by the Oakland Raiders.

Do we expect anything other than that?

Jackson had one year to show what kind of head coach he could be, and then he's gone? I know he might not be the handpicked choice of new general manager Reggie McKenzie, and I know he can be volatile and outspoken, but did he really get a fair shake?

The Raiders missed the playoffs at 8-8, but they had a ton of injuries decimate the speed on offense in the final six weeks. That showed up. It's why Carson Palmer never looked like the player the Raiders expected he would look like when they traded premium draft picks to land him.

Yes, the Raiders led the NFL in penalties, but when have they not?

Jackson deserved at least another year. I don't know he would have turned into John Madden or Tom Flores or any of the other successful Raiders coach. But he needed at least another year to show if could have done so.

To borrow from Raiders-speak: Just stupid, baby.

Raiders make another mistake

Don`t you think it`s alittle early to be saying, they made a mistake in firing Jackson? Maybe in the meeting between Jackson and McKenzie, they just didn`t agree on how things should proceed. prisco jumping to this conclusion so fast, to bowwow His words, "Just Stupid, baby."

Raiders do NOT make another mistake

Bad Defense
Team not showing up
Ranting at the team
Going for it when kicking wins the game
A new GM who wants everyone on the same page

Step into my office, because you're fired. Sounds like a good decision to me

Raiders make another mistake

I believe the main reason he was fired was because there was a clause in his contract that he answered only to the position held by the late Al Davis.  Now that there is a GM, there wouldn't be any sense to Jackson not answering to the new GM, which is exactly what would have been happening.

Raiders make another mistake

The firing of Hue Jackson was not in the least stupid.  It was absolutely forced.  REAL coaches put on a brave face for the media, make a few terse remarks if he's that upset, and launch into a tirade that would make the paint in the locker room peel behind closed doors.  That's what Cowher or Tomlin would have done.  Huey decides to trash his players and not take one iota of the hit himself not once, but twice, after the Detroit and San Diego losses.  For those of you who thought Tom Cable was a clown and a joke, guess what?  Jackson was even more laughable.  McKenzie did the right thing.  I think the Raiders will stick with Palmer and the good offensive personnel they have, and hire a coach that has a defensive background or will bring in a quality co-ordinator.

Raiders make another mistake

All year long Hue said he takes full responsibilty for the team, until the final game when he basically threw the entire team under the bus...I like Hue but I believe he talked himself right out of the job, especially with a new GM coming in. Good luck Hue.

Raiders make another mistake

Asinine. Just Asinine.

I don' t care what anyone says....he deserved at least one more year!

Someone on one of these boards had it right 1000%. In today's "instant-results-needed" environment, some of the all time great coaches would have been fired BEFORE he ever got started rising to greatness! Sad. Sad.

Raiders make another mistake

What's stupid baby is a Raiders culture that seemed to encourage undisciplined play.  And maybe, just maybe the Raiders are ready to do something about.

Raiders make another mistake

I beg to differ...Jackson's manta "building a bully" was not going to get the Raiders where they need to be.  Him throwing his team under the bus after the Charger's loss was a huge mistake.  He made a lot of mistakes...seemingly not caring, despite some lip service to the contrary, that his team just wasn't playing smart football.  Far too many penalties...just too many bonehead plays.  He's responsible.  McKenzie's proven his mettle with the Packers...and I applaud Mark Davis for having the cojones to hire him and give him full authority to run the show his way.  It's time for a totally new day in Oakland...and keeping Jackson wasn't going to get them there.

Raiders make another mistake

Only the Raiders would fire in back to back seasons two coaches who gave them their first .500 or better seasons in 10 years.  There is just a misconception in Oakland that this team is still a contender.  They are not!  They are rebuilding and getting drastically better.  A little stability would only help their cause.  Now they have to get another coach and another system and experience the same 8-8 fate.  Give yourselves time to get better for Pete sake!

Raiders make another mistake

Your an idiot Prisco . This is the first step in what appears to returning to sanity . After that season ending press conference it was clear that change needed to be made . Hue Jackson had become drunk with power . He threw his whole team under the bus and then had the nerve to ask for a say in who the knew GM would be . Incredible . Sorry but this is the guy , Reggie McKenzie , that John Madden and Ron Wolf said should lead the Raiders . Let him bring in his people and do his job . Why wait a year .
