Raiders make another mistake

Firing Hue Jackson is a mistake by the Oakland Raiders.

Do we expect anything other than that?

Jackson had one year to show what kind of head coach he could be, and then he's gone? I know he might not be the handpicked choice of new general manager Reggie McKenzie, and I know he can be volatile and outspoken, but did he really get a fair shake?

The Raiders missed the playoffs at 8-8, but they had a ton of injuries decimate the speed on offense in the final six weeks. That showed up. It's why Carson Palmer never looked like the player the Raiders expected he would look like when they traded premium draft picks to land him.

Yes, the Raiders led the NFL in penalties, but when have they not?

Jackson deserved at least another year. I don't know he would have turned into John Madden or Tom Flores or any of the other successful Raiders coach. But he needed at least another year to show if could have done so.

To borrow from Raiders-speak: Just stupid, baby.

Raiders make another mistake

the raiders..a once proud and great orginization are done! constant coaching changes along with bad drafts have ruined this team. when will the higher ups relize that if theres a new coaching staff every 18-20 games the players will never be able to get it going..new playbooks each time, new rules and philosophies!!!! i have been a raider fan for 20 + years and its over......the nfl should take control of the team because this is getting rediculous...anaverage of a new coach every 24 games!!!!! is that a record? 6 in 9 years.....

Raiders make another mistake

I'm completely ok with firing Hue.  In the first SD-Oakland game, the won the Raiders won, Hue was doing everything he could to give that game to the Chargers.  He was trying to out suck Norv Turner.  Hue may be a well liked guy, but the devil is in the details and he was not a detail-oriented coach as evident by the record breaking penalties on the Raiders.  Granted, I think refs go in looking to blow the whistle on the Raiders, but a sloppy team is an extension of the coach.  This team was poorly coached when it counted.  Most of the losses down the stretch were on the game planning of Hue, or a lack there of.  A fresh start with a guy from a great organization, with his own coach, also from Green Bay, will go far in changing the culture of that locker room and this organization.

Also, don't forget, it was on Hue's recommendation that we give up 2 1st round picks for Palmer.  I like Palmer, but not for that price.  All the other great organizations in this league build through the draft!  GB, NYG, Pittsburgh, New England...all draft well and hold onto and covet their picks!  to be so flippant with draft picks for a guy who's not even worth the #1 overall that was used on him, could set a team back years!!  I only hope that doesn't happen here.  Hue made his bed...his firing is on him.

Raiders make another mistake

This was not a mistake..... and whether or not it is fair to Hue Jackson is a ridiculous point to consider. Did you notice how undisciplined the Raiders were and have been? This is the first professional move made by this franchise in a long time. They now have a real GM and he needs to build a scouting dept., coaching staff, and roster. Thet will be severely hamstrung due to the past regime and lack of draft picks, but at least they have a clue of which direction to head.

Raiders make another mistake

I'm not a Raiders fan, but just the opposite, but this stupid move shows the ghost of Al Davis still controls the team.

I disagree...Hugh Jackson is well over his head. His hubris is painful. He talks a big game, but cannot deliver...League leading penalty count cost them at least 2 games..>Look at Palmers stats...from couch to the NFL in 8 days is phenonimal.  He was not the issue...Horrific Defense coordinator, penalty prone and a head coach that called out his team within moments after defeat...AFTER he mismanaged the entier game...This Raider fan is extremely happy R. McKenzie can see through Hugh BS...where Pinto cleary cannot.
Raiders in 2012-13...10-6...with Charlie Brown as coach.

Raiders make another mistake

Jackson was doing well until he threw everyone under the bus at the end of the season press conference. I would like to have seen him stick around, because the coaching merry-go-round in Oakland isn't helping. Hue needed a GM and they got one. Now, they're talking about another untested head coach, Winton Moss. I would have preferred to see Moss come in as DC and show he could instill some discipline on that side of the ball the way Jackson did on the offensive side. The offensive line penalties were not a bad as under Cable, but the defense was killing the Raiders with unnecessary roughness calls, neutral zone infractions, pass interference and the like.

Oh well, here we go again.

I disagree, I think instead of having both Reggie and Hue bump heads all season next year then why not start with a hand picked coach by the GM?  I liked Hue and he really brought a lot of excitement to the Raiders team that I haven't felt in a while but I just think it could of turned out bad if he stuck around.

Raiders make another mistake

It was Hue's own doing.  The guy threw he entire team and the franchise under the bus after that losing game against San Diego, and thus at the end of the season.  Who does that?  I used to believe in him, but he lost a lot of respect right there.  A lot of the personel moves and changes that were made that season were based on his recommendations.  And most penalties in NFL history?  Yes that's on the coash too.  Where was time management?  Who was motivating the team when they were playing for playoffs?  And how did the meeting with the GM go?  Was he already telling the GM how to do his job like he said he would in the speach?  I wish him luck, Hue has pontial to be a good coach.  But he also has a lot to learn.  A little too much ego.

Raiders make another mistake

As a fan, I was excited with the hiring of McKenzie.  Now I'm not so sure.  This wasn't a move that should have been made.  And to the Al Davis bashers, Davis wouldn't have fired the guy.  This team was a defensive coordinator and a player or two away from being playoff material.  Now they appear to be starting over.  Sad day.
