Holdouts just dumb

Does a holdout ever work in the NFL?

No.

That's why at this time of the year, when veterans are angry about their contract and decide stay away from camp, I can only shake my head.

What does it accomplish?

Chicago Bears return man Devin Hester wisely showed up for practice Friday, ending his brief holdout. Now watch the Bears quickly sign him to a long-term deal.

Buffalo Bills tackle Jason Peters is staying away from camp because he's unhappy with his contract. Peters has ascended to the top of the tackle lists, but he just signed a new deal two years ago.

St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson also didn't show up for the first day of Rams camp, even though the Rams are talking contract with him.

It's not like these players will sit out the season. Like I always say, they won't waste one of the prime earning years they have in their bodies.

That never works. So why not just show up and try and work out the deal as you go.

Sitting at home is never the right thing. You want to get paid. Get into camp and play.

Holdouts just dumb

Dude, are you actually literate or do you just like to hear yourself talk?  When you reference their it should be THEIR not there.  And by the way, as much as I love my football, they are not fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan, so don't talk about putting their lives on the line.  They should hire accountants to teach them about money and how to handle it and not waist it all at the strip clubs and on bling or whatever they call it these days.  Get a clue and get back to us when you are making over $1,000,000 a year to play a kid's game and live your childhood dream.  No boss I have ever worked for let me dictate how much I would make or when I decided to show up for work or not.  They own the teams to make money, they put up the initial $$$$ to get back more $$$$$$.  Got it?

Holdouts just dumb

This is a business where were not  talking 60,000 or even 100,000 dollars a year to go punch a clock & type on a computer keyboard 9-5 or even a salary where we know you don't have a set time & you could end up doing 60hrs in a week. Were talking about putting there life on the line every time they hit the field. Yes I said it putting there life on the line because at any given time on that field they could worst case scenario of course die. Some of these retired/finished w/the game athletes can't even get out of bed in the morning without help, or worse need drugs (i'm talking prescription drugs of course)  after playing in the leauge & because they didn't hold out for more money because they wanted to be there for the team. Man please spare me that crap. Where's the team at now. Fat happy & rich off your dumb butt. You have players that can't even afford to pay there medical expenses because they are living on a fixed income, they have no health benefits, no retirement plan, there barely living. Grant it some of them are stupid for not investing there money of course but over half of them probably even more then that aren't making that kind of money but also that's what the team said was all they would pay them & no one else was gonna give them anymore money. So rather than fight it you listen to your team mate toast  who's giving you crap because your talking about skipping a few weeks of camp or that rich owner of the team who pays your salary & keeps promising you " you know I'm gonna take care of you your my number 1 priority just as soon as I get these new players & this person & that person squared away I got your back. Some of them are so bannged up now I betcha they wish they would of held out a little while & missed a few of those training camps. These owners make millions some billions of dollars off these players every year & that's who you should be directing this towards. These athletes they have trained for this there whole life to be the best at what they do, they get banged up week after week, to only have 1 week off in a what 16 week season let's not forget if they actually are on a descent team & they make it thru the playoffs & you want them to come into a training camp practice session for a couple weeks in which you could get a career ending injury because of a freak accident. Now because the money isn't on the table your screwed & your window of opurtunity has just narrowed now your bargaining chip (your health the best thing to have in a contract negotiation) has now become a potato chip your gonna have to settle for less than what your really worth. Now your paranoid because your now a liability not an asset you could even possibly be traded. Now your in a tail spin.  When was the last time you were actually out there doing the job these guys do. Again this only pertains to the big name players but the rookies they need to have there butts in camp getting the feel for the system, learning the plays, getting to know there teammates & coaching staff learning to get prepared for the life & times of an NFL player. HOLDOUT that my friend is as big a part of this game as is training camp & it's a part of this big business we call professional sports. Be glad it's not you. Me personally I know some PROFESSIONAL athletes basketball players NBA, football players NFL, & Soccer players MLS & PREMIERSHIP, & also baseball MLB. I was lucky enough that 4 of my closest friends are still playing so I have a little more insight than your average joe. Seriously none of them like that part of the game but it is what it is & they have to do what they have to do to secure there future & alot of them are supporting there families aswell so it's not just about them. But until someone changes the rules we have to suck it up & hope things work out for them to be in training camp. I use to be just like you until  these professional athletes came into my life & I know them personally & can hang out with them to this day, know there families personally & can call them & say let's go over here this person is having a thing this weekend or let's go hang out at my house for the game. Don't take it so hard man there not attacking you they have a job to do & just like you I'm sure you would wanna be compensated for the work you had have proven you can do time & time again but if an agreement can't be met by the time the preseason starts negotiations continue & it ends when you both decide to agree to something or you agree to disagree. But you have to put yourself in there shoes first before you pass judgment because you really don't know what that man's situation is you only know what the media is feeding you & you seem like a smart enough guy to figure out that the media most of the time is alot of propaganda to get you fired up & start talking about the issue that really is none of anybodies business.
