Ben Sheets put forth a dominating performance yesterday, striking out 8 and going the distance with a shutout for the Brewers in front of an SRO crowd on Prince Fielder Bobblehead Day.  When you see him throwing 92 and 94 mph heat early in the game you just know he has his best stuff going.  Usually he starts out 88-90 and gets to the mid nineties in the 3rd inning.  Yesterday he got up to 96 and 97.  There were some very nice defensive plays helping the Brewers and some timely hitting and a couple of longballs, but yesterday was all about Ben.  At 5-1 the Brewers are tied with the Cardinals atop the NL Central and are off to a nice start.  They start this week with a 3 game affair with division rival Cincinnati Reds.

Holy Sheets!!

I was at the game Sunday GoPack is referring to.  If my memory serves me correctly (it might not, we arrived at 9:45am and began tailgaiting) his first pitch of the game was a 94mph fastball for a strike.  That 11 pitch, strike out the side top of the first was amazing.  You knew it was going to be a good day for Sheets.  You just hoped for two things.  First, run support, second, Ned Yost having the foresight not to pull him in the 8th or 9th.  Both were accomplished.  Now, lets see how the Reds series goes.  I think Suppan might be overmatched tonight, but never count out the home field advantage to even things up.  Tomorrows starting pitching should equal a slugfest.  (If Bush has another bad game, he should be the odd man out when Gillardo returns imo)  And Thursdays game advantage Brewers on the mound.  I'd be thrilled with 2 out 3 against the Reds.  2 out of 3 aint bad, especially without Sheets on the mound for this series.  Hopefully Sheets will keep this up and be a handful for the Mets on Sunday.  Go Brewers!

Holy Sheets!!

He'll be on the DL by the end of the month.

Sorry, not trying to hate on the BrewCrew (they're one of my favorite NL teams), just trying to remain realistic. Dominant performance yesterday, though and it should continue...

Holy Sheets!!

The Brewers are a scary team right now, especially with Sheets firing on all cylinders, and the fact that Fielder has not hit a longball yet. I'm confident that the Central is gonna be infinitely better than it was last season. I see Milwaukee, Chicago, and Cincinnati all finishing over .500. It wouldn't be out of the question for the WC to come out of the Central this season. The Cards are off to a hot start, but I don't see wnyway that they can keep that up, especially if Pujols arm falls off before the All Star break.
