Ravens-Texans to Atlanta?

A day ago I was told that the Baltimore-Houston game, scheduled for Sunday in Houston, might be moved to Atlanta because of Hurricane Ike. Now, word comes down that the league will make a decision by 4 p.m. Thursday, with Atlanta a possible destination. That is unconfirmed, with a spokesman at the league office saying he did not know if it was true. But I do know that in Baltimore -- where the Ravens were preparing to move up their getaway to Houston from Saturday to Friday -- the club has heard reports that it will move to Atlanta instead. A source in Houston said the Texans expected to hear from the league office this afternoon but could not confirm if Atlanta was the site of their next game or if they would play on Sunday. The Falcons are not home this weekend, playing in Tampa Bay, which would leave the Georgia Dome vacant. It is not certain how or why Atlanta might be chosen, but moving a game to a neutal site is not unprecedented. The league did it in 2003, shifting the Miami at San Diego game to Phoenix after San Diego was ravaged by fires. It also moved a September, 2005 game between New Orleans and the New York Giants from New Orleans, which suffered through Hurricane Katrina, to Giants Stadium. However, it  endured a raft of criticism for, essentially, taking a home game from the Saints and giving it to the Giants. That was not going to happen here.

Ravens-Texans to Atlanta?

Just like I said in my previous post, Clark Judge made the whole thing up, the game is officially rescheduled for Houston, Monday night 7:30 CST, at Reliant Stadium.

Judge is still an idiot. Atlanta? What a joke. Judge needs to shut up or do some research before spewing nonsense.

Never, at any time, was Atlanta ever considered for a replacement venue for this game. Clark Judge made the whole thing up.

Yes, they have a retractable roof, however, since there is going to be a hurricane, the nfl is trying to be sensitive and not have bad things going on around the city whiel a football game full of fun is going on inside the stadium.  Also, what if the stadium is needed like the Superdome was needed in New Orleans.  I think they are doing the right thing, but maybe they should play the game in Oklahoma, closer to Texas, not Atlanta.  And playing it anywhere else in Texas, especially San Antonio would not be recommended since the hurricane is coming.

I would love a Monday night game since I am a Season Ticket holder! But, the latest projections have the eye of the storm coming right over the stadium! If it comes ashore at a Cat 3 like they say, I don't think there will be power, even if the stadium is named after a power company! That's 120MPH + winds, not to mention the 15 - 20 ft. storm surge that will right come up the ship channel that is only 10 miles away!!! There could be total devestation in H-Town! Besides, Monday will be the first day the masses come back in town from where ever they went to and getting to the stadium would be a nightmare. I don't want to eat $65 for my seat, but I will probably be cleaning up all day anyway. I'm hunkering down! I'd probably miss the game if it were in Atlanta, as I won't have power either! Doah!

I just saw that they are going to play the game on Monday, so fortunately the Texans aren't losing a home game because of this.

Ravens-Texans to Atlanta?

Why not play the game in New Orleans at the Superdome!!  U2 and Green Day can open up the game with a concert honoring the evacuee's. The Houston fans can use it as an evacuation shelter and then watch the game on Sunday, then use it as a temporary home, until all is cleaned up in Houston.  After all, EVERYONE knows the Superdome makes for a GREAT shelter.  THE TEXANS are COMING, THE TEXANS are coming!

Good luck to all you Texans, seriously, though! Be careful evacuating.

After seeing what Gustav did would there be power by Monday night? If so yes, as I like having an early and late Monday night game. The three Mikes are alot easier to listen to than the main crew.

Whoever posted that the wind conditions could slow down the passing game of the Texans is a moron and a sad excuse for a NFL fan. Do you not know that they play in a retractable roof stadium? Are you just oblivious to the rest of the NFL? That was a good point made earlier by someone that it was the first stadium of its kind in the NFL. Wake up people? You wonder why America outside the East Coast frowns upon the fans of the East Coast. Read more news than the Bostion Globe or your local paper. Man it annoys me that there are actually people out there that have no clue what is going on in the rest of the sports world.

The storm path is expected to go nowhere near San Antonio now.  They are not using the Alamodome as a refugee hut.  Who in Atlanta would go to this game?  8,000 people?  Would they give free tickets away?

With this appearing (as of 4:00 PM today) to be headed directly at Houston, there's no way to assume what damage will occur to Reliant or to people's homes in Houston.  Could this be moved to Monday?  Sure, if the stadium and power were still available (and being Reliant, wouldn't that be irony if no power?).  This game could be moved to San Antonio or New Orleans and maybe some Texans fans would be able to enjoy it, but Atlanta?  Have you ever heard the quarterback call the cadence without a microphone?

Couldn't they play the game in Oakland?

They used to have pro football THERE!
