Dawkins gone to Broncos

Posted on: February 28, 2009 2:16 pm

Bad news, Philadelphia. Brian Dawkins is gone. He signed with Denver, and, no, I don't know how much he's going to help the Broncos -- especially with the team in a rebuilding phase on defense. But I do know how important he was to Philadelphia, on the field and off. Dawkins was hoping the Eagles would fight to keep him, but they did not. The reason: He's 35. The Eagles are tough when it comes to re-signing players in their 30s, though I thought they would make an exception for Dawkins. They did not, and they lost him. Sorry, Philadelphia. He will be missed.

Dawkins gone to Broncos

I am now what you would call an ex-Eagles fan.  This Dawkins joke was the last straw for me.  Sometimes it is about doing the right thing.  The Phillies didn't want to give Moyer a for real guaranteed, not meaningless NFL, 2 year contract.  But they did the right thing.  As long as Joe bann runs the money, and Andy Ried haw full control of player personel (don't give me Tom Heckert, Andy makes ALL the final calls) I am no longer an Eagles fan.  As a matter of fact, I am going to openly root against them...especially when B-Dawk and his Broncos come to Philly.

Great pick up for Denver!!!

Dawkins should be a great addition as a team leader.  Though he is 35, he should be starting this year and giving denver the vocal presence denver has lacked since John Lynch left.

Champ Bailey is a great player but he does not have the vocal leadership that the young Bronco defence.

With the signings of Davis, Gaffney, Aarrington, Dawkins just to name a few, where are the Broncos going to find cap room to sign the 2009 Drafts.

I'm a huge Redskin fan, but will say it's sad to see Dawkins go. He was the face of the Eagles on and off the field.

My bad didn't realize there are also incentives and that 15 mil is the "mininum" he will get. Still gonna miss the man.

What bothers me is that the All Pro saftety that Dawkins is can only command a tad over 3 mil per year in free agency. Seeing him play I figured he'd at least get 5-6mil a year. The fact that the Eags couldn't give one of thier all time greats 17 mil for 3 years is pathetic to me. Surely the man is worth that to the Eagles Organization. Although I think he should have weighed his options longer before just going with Denver knowing he could have gotten more money, it was his decision so you gotta respect him for that.

Will miss B-Dawk for sure.

How can you put a price on leadership.  It seems like philly is willing to fight for all the wrong coaches/players.  No disrespect to Andy and Donovan...but even as a Steeler fan, I took a lot more notice to Dawkin's leadership and dominant presents opposed to  Donovans on again off again half-a$$ performances. There is a reason Dawkin's alter-ego is Wolvereine, the man is a beast.  Legends dont get old, they are like fine wine....the get better with age.
