Only shock will be if Stallworth plays in '09

So Donte Stallworth is suspended indefinitely. Where's the surprise? That was a slam-dunk. Now let's see what happens next, and I'll be surprised only if Stallworth is allowed to play this season.

Remember, the Rams' Leonard Little was suspended eight games when he pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in a 1998 accident -- and that was under a more lenient commissioner. Roger Goodell is a guy who sat down "Pacman" Jones one season for a series of run-ins, even though he never was never found guilty, and that should serve as a guide here.

Goodell is all about cleaning up this league -- or, at least, trying to clean it up -- and there's no way he goes soft on Stallworth. Stallworth's attorney said the wide receiver "acted like a man" in stopping after hitting a pedestrian "and cooperated fully." Great. He still killed somebody while driving drunk. Now he suffers the consequences. He got off easy with a 30-day jail sentence only because he entered into a plea agreement, but Goodell won't be as forgiving. There are no deals with the commissioner.

I say Stallworth is gone for this season, and that's not exactly going out on a limb. As Goodell pointed out, Stallworth's conduct was "inexcusable," and his actions caused "irrepable harm to the victim and his family," as well as the NFL. The hammer comes next. Donte' Stallworth doesn't play this year.

There is no excuse for drinking and driving, but the guy was jaywalking, stallworth left the bar in a cab went home to sleep it off and then got a ride back to his car in the morning, and then went down to the beech to meet some friends for breakfast.  Either he had a ton to drink or he alchol says in your system a long time.

The poor gentleman that was hit by Stallworth's car was jaywalking...crossing the street outside of a crosswalk.  No excuse for getting hit, but perhaps had the late pedestrian been fully law abiding, this may not have happened.

One final thought...
Anyone planning on seeing Michael Vick this season...fuggedaboudit.

The pedestrian may be partly at fault here. I mean, this would not be the first time some idiot walked out into the road like he owned it, but you have to undestand that this guy was killed as a result of the negligence of Stallworth. The NFL has to come down hard on Stallworth, imo. I'm going to boycot, as in not watch, any games this guy plays in. That even means I'll boycot the Tampa Bay game if he's playing in it. I can't stand to see something like this let go.

Stallworth should not be allowed to play this year he committed 3 crimes and then he gets a slap on the wrist of 24 days in jail.  It was good to see the NFL suspend without pay, he should not be allowed to receive any of that $35 million dollar contract he signed last year.  Such a sad story and to bad the judicial system or family would not take this case farther.

So the guy was jaywalking too... Geeze, I can tell you that I personally almost hit a lady today that walked right in front of my car on 36th and 9th in the NYC. Now granted, I wasn't drunk but if I wouldn't have completely swerved, almost hitting another car, she may have been killed. If things would have gone another way, would my employer have been expected to take discipline action? Fact is the guy that got killed broke the law as well.

I have not read much about this case but what I can't seem to figure out is, wouldn't your first instincts be to hit the breaks, either to slow down or stop verses flashing the lights? Does anyone else think that flashing the lights is odd? My understanding is he was out of the crosswalk though... still, wouldn't you hit the breaks?
