Jets make the move for Cromartie

Well, well, well. So the Jets were interested in Antonio Cromartie after all, acquiring him in a deal Thursday night for a conditional third-round pick.

If Cromartie plays as he did in 2007, the Jets have themselves a steal. If he doesn't, they have themselves a headache. Unlike his first year with San Diego, there has been no consistency to his play, and the Chargers were fed up with his off-the-field issues. So they peddled him, with the Jets the logical choice.

Rewind the videotape to the Jets' AFC championship game loss to Indianapolis and you'll know why. The Jets had the pass defense in the league and the NFL's best cornerback, yet they still couldn't beat Peyton Manning. They needed another cornerback, and they just found one ... only don't ask him to support the run. Watch Cromartie on Shonn Greene's playoff dash against San Diego, and tell me the guy has an interest in tackling.

He doesn't.

But maybe that changes with a new team and Rex Ryan as his head coach. All I know is that the Jets found themselves a highly skilled player whose first season in the NFL was his last good one. That means three years of so-so play. Couple that with his baggage, and you have a one-way ticket out of town.

The Chargers are glad to be rid of him. The Jets are happy to have another cornerback. For the moment, both parties look like winners. But keep your eyes on this guy. If he couldn't keep his mind on football in San Diego, how does he handle the distractions of the New York area?

Jets make the move for Cromartie

Hint: NOBODY on a CBS message board is going to square up ANY NFL players... We are talking about CROMARTIE here.  It's kind of obvious that no one here is a better football player than Cromartie, but I would think he'd be held to a higher standard than the people commenting here on the boards... And by the way, it's not just $25,000 in unpaid child support.  It's 6 kids by 7 women (3 of whom have active paternity suits against him), throwing champagne bottles at bar patrons (allegedly), failing to pay $800 in parking tickets (when he signed a contract worth a gurarenteed $7 mil +), and a suspended liscense... AND THAT's just his OFF-THE-FIELD problem list... His on field attributes include: being afraid to tackle (while claiming you're a top NFL corner) even in the biggest game of the year for his team, teammates irate with Cro for not going all-out, coaching staff has had numerous problems with him, and oh yeah, only 5 INT's in his last 2 seasons...

Add all that up and what is the only conclusion you can draw?  A talented player, but a complete moron, with zero common sense, zero responsibility, zero accountability, and zero consistancy...

Thanks for the draft pick NY, enjoy your new dip-$#%! corner back...

because i seriously doubt any of you hater's would've liked to square up a RB going at you with NO HELP, NO SAFTEY...just you and him. Yah nice call....thats why all of you arent getting paid to play and he is.

Good Stuff Cromartie...Take us to the super bowl this year!

it made perfect sense...and since when does a man owing 25k in back filed child support matter to on the field play? Way to lower the bar guys, but then again most of you posting on here dont really look back to date at stat's very often or make sure what you post is correct. But hey it could be just me, but one guy being wrong turned into a bunch of bandwagon haters to post up smashing a pro-player...for oweing 25k in child support.  Tell you what guy's......if any of you can square up Shonn Greene and tackle him while he is going full speed at you just after you seen him coming...i will definatly have to sign you to a 2 yr contract to play line backer in Carolina.

Thank you Big Apple!  Hope you enjoy your new non-tackling, champagne bottle-throwing, sorry attitude-having, father of 7 children with 6 different women (by the ripe old age of 25), triple paternity suit-facing, non-traffic ticket paying, suspended liscense-having corner back... And for a likely 2nd-rounder to boot? Can't wait to see which one of the Jets defenders wants to rip Antonio's head off first...

Adam Schein reported a few days back the Cards would trade either Boldin or a 3rd pick for Rhodes.  Apparently Cards have no desire to pay Boldin and believe he is damaged goods.

Slow down Farmer Ted...that 10 INT season came when there was a healthy Jamal in the middle demanding the double team 100% of the time and a roided up Merriman next to him tearing the QBs head off.  Take away those 2 elements and you have a girly-man DB who is scared to tackle anyone...including his 7 kids by his 5 different baby mamas.  Good luck in NYC, he'll need it and so will the Jets.  Don't be surprised when he gets burned left and right and doesn't even start for the Jets at the end of the year.

Look at what Cromartie does without a roided up Merriman and without Jamal in the middle....absolutely nothing.  Jammer is twice as good as Cromartie, at least, and Cason is ready to step up.  Hope all you Jets fans are ready to watch Cromartie run away from RBs, praying for someone else to tackle so he doesn't have to.  It will be a one and done, the Jets will see the real Cromartie this year and won't re-sign him when he's a free agent after next year.

it should make you think when a team is willing to give away a young player....
