Browns unload Wimbley for third-rounder

The Cleveland Browns have pulled off their second deal Sunday, trading away linebacker Kamerion Wimbley to the Oakland Raiders for a third-round pick in this year's draft, sources told me.

Wimbley was a productive player for the Browns, but even though he led the team in sacks (6.5) last season he never played up to his rookie year (2006) when he produced a team-high 11. Plus, with the club stockpiling players at outside linebacker he became expendable -- particulary with his contract expiring after next season.

The Browns must have figured they couldn't re-sign him ... or would have trouble re-signing him ... and took the path of least resistance, getting something for him now while they could.

With the draft as deep as it is this year the move makes sense.

Browns unload Wimbley for third-rounder

Everyone here thinks they are so qualified to be the judge and jury as far as every move is concerned.  Let the man make his moves and judge him at the end of the season when the record speaks for itself. If all of you know so much about football, why aren't you occupying his office?  if you are a true fan, like I think all of you are, then support the organization, instead of bashing him because your beloved Brady Quinn is gone.  Good riddance.

Browns unload Wimbley for third-rounder

I hate to see us lose Wimbley.  I would have hope to have gotten at least a 2nd round pick.
But, Oakland I believe picks 5th in the 3rd round, so it's almost as good as a late second rounder.
The Browns do have a lot of young talent at linebacker though.  I expect someone to grab
RFA Linebacker Dqwell Jackson next, giving the Browns another 2nd round pick.    He too is
probably expendable now that the Browns stole LB Scott Fujita (The Saints Defensive Captain)
from the World Champs.    I also hate losing QB Quinn who could still become a star some
day.  I like Wallace, but he is too short at 5'11", and Dehomme is like another Derek Anderson,
but older.  He has a good arm, but gets intercepted way to often.   Look for the Browns to draft
a QB in rounds 3 or 4.    I do trust Holgram in regards to his knowledge of QB's.
Change is not always easy for us fans because we like certain players on our teams regardless
if they have an off year.    Do to the contract problems the Browns might have been facing and
the fact the Browns have dept at the LB position, I'll agree not to get upset over the Browns
letting Wimbley go.   It just gets a little scarry when you part with your BEST PASS RUSHER.

Wimbley is a DE mascarading as a OLB.  He never fit into the 3-4 system and will probabley be a much better player as a DE in a 4-3 defense.  With the mid season pick up of Matt Roth and the signing of Scott Fujita it made Wimbley expendable.  I'll take a 3rd round pick for him.  Its better than paying an average player 7mil.

Only the Browns......

.....would in the same day find a way to trade one former first-round pick for a 3rd round pick and another former first-rounder for a 6th round pick.  Nice going Randy Lerner.

While I'm not sold on Holmgren as a GM, but this was a fine move if the Browns weren't going to resign him.  Wimbley hasn't lived up to expectations since his rookie year, but since he had that one good year as an OLB he was going to ride it to a pretty nice deal.  He was productive but 3-4 rush LBs need to produce the sacks.

And the Raiders are NOT in the NFC West.  They aren't even in the NFC.  Come on.

Who cares whether he was good in Seattle or not.  He's not there anymore!  How about we actually talk about the trade which to me is not a good one!  The qb changes aren't all that great to me either.  You get rid of a young int thrower to sign another much older int thrower for alot of money!

He won the NFC west because it was a joke. The Raiders, Rams and 49ers were all being run into the ground during the Seahawks run.

I think he is an alright GM and all, but he is tearing the Browns down and rebuilding again so he is going to need a lot of things to go right for this to work.
