Browns unload Wimbley for third-rounder

The Cleveland Browns have pulled off their second deal Sunday, trading away linebacker Kamerion Wimbley to the Oakland Raiders for a third-round pick in this year's draft, sources told me.

Wimbley was a productive player for the Browns, but even though he led the team in sacks (6.5) last season he never played up to his rookie year (2006) when he produced a team-high 11. Plus, with the club stockpiling players at outside linebacker he became expendable -- particulary with his contract expiring after next season.

The Browns must have figured they couldn't re-sign him ... or would have trouble re-signing him ... and took the path of least resistance, getting something for him now while they could.

With the draft as deep as it is this year the move makes sense.

What is your definition of failed?  How would you define Kokinis ?  Anyway, Tom Heckert, Jr. is General Manager of personnel.

How did he fail in Seattle? He lead them to 4 straight division titles and a super bowl which they should have won if not for the refs. In my book and the rest of the NFL that is not a failure. Your an idiot for even posting that. Holmgren knows players and gets the best out of his players especially his QB's. In 2 years the Browns will be a wild card team all because of the decisions he will make.

Thanks for the words of wisdom donut-

maybe we should've hired you as GM...you sound like you're much more qualified.

Holmgren as GM

Before everone starts drooling over Mike Holmgren stockpiling draft picks to rebuild the Browns, consider this.  His great teams in Green Bay were stocked by Ron Wolf, not Big Mike.  As a personell man in Seattle, he failed.
