Haynesworth episode no B.S. for head coach

Posted on: July 30, 2010 2:19 pm

So Albert Haynesworth is "tired of this B.S.," is that right? I guarantee you that he's not alone. Mike Shanahan is tired, too.

Which is why this B.S. is happening -- only it's not B.S. for the man in charge. When Haynesworth boycotted spring workouts and let it be known he wasn't happy playing tackle in Jim Haslett's 3-4 defense he basically called out Shanahan, with the head coach challenged to respond. Shanahan's response was no response, which was his way of telling the former All-Pro not to take him on and that he, not Haynesworth, had the juice.

But it's one thing to have it. It's another to exercise it, and Shanahan is using it now to make an example of Haynesworth. The message is loud and clear: Don't try to embarrass me or challenge me because I will bury you. If players didn't know it before they do now, with the message reinforced every day that teammates watch Haynesworth struggle to make it on the field.

I'll be honest: Albert Haynesworth is an example that Shanahan must make. This is all about discipline and demonstrating who's running the store, and I can tell you this: It's not Albert Haynesworth. One way or another he was going to discover that, and he's finding out the hard way.

Yogi seems to have completely missed the point. When you make an example of someone it isn't to change that person it is to send a message to everyone else. The Redskins have been a rudderless franchise for a while now. You think Zorn would have had the dap to do this, no way. Shanahan is letting the organization know that things are going to be done his way and that if everybody buys in they will win. If you don't buy in you will be gone. Shanahan probably already knows that Haynesworth is a no-hoper.
Exactly. Additionally, it is much, much easier to be a hard-a** at first and then relent later on, than it is to do it the other way. A new coach, his first training camp, trying to establish the right tone. Frankly, I'm a bit surprised that AH went all-in on his bet that Shanny would give him a pass. At the same time, I'm not sure anyone has ever accused AH of being bright...just saying.

I cant really figure this out, Hanesworth was just on joes vs pros and he looked to be the size of a linebacker, although he sure didnt do much vs the joes. He looked to be in shape but just not very good, too small for what he plays.

What a joke. Paying somebody that much when he isn't even in condition to play three downs in a row is the height of foolishness. He wasn't worth 10 percent of what they paid him last year and he'll only be a distraction this year. Cut his fat butt.

Still, Carpanfan, you must admit... it's not really much of a punishment when you're paying someone 12 mil a year guaranteed to do nothing more than eat donuts all day.  I like what Shanahan is trying to do, but in the end, the only one who can make Albert change is Albert.  And if Albert doesn't even want to TRY for the bonus incentives, then so be it.

Haynesworth episode no B.S. for head coach

There is no doubt in my mind Shanahan is coaching up the "other" guys with this move but in reference to the blog itself it read to me that Mr. Judge's opinion is formulated missing two important points. First point is he says that Mikes message is, don't try and embarass me. When did Haynesworth try and embarass anyone? In retrospect only Haynesworth should be embarassed. The second point is only that Albert is in no way getting punished himself here and I thought that angle is being misrepresented. Also to the second reply , I am sure he does not have a workout and conditioning clause in the contract for if it did they would surely excercise it or at least threaten to. Thus, he cannot be fined for missing practice that the team will not allow him to participate in because of some asinine test.

He isn't getting 100 million, when you take a look at the deal. It has a poison pill in it. it's basically a 4 year deal worth 48 million. The team could also easily fine him if he's unable to pass the test everyday till he passes it.

Yeah I am sure Haynesworth is really concerned. lol. When are people going to wake up and realize once you give a man 100 million dollars the only way to actually affect anything in the mans life is by taking money or not allowing him to spend it. Neither of which can or will happen to Haynesworth so all you idiots that want to chest bump Shanahan for this go ahead but it is not Albert who is getting cheated/punished it is the fans of the Washington Redskins.
