Why Rex and why now?

What's wrong with this picture: Rex Ryan takes the New York Jets to the conference championship game in his rookie season as a head coach and reportedly gains a two-year contract extension. Darrelle Revis makes the All-Pro team and is acclaimed the best cornerback in the business -- and a key component to the team that was within one win of a Super Bowl -- yet there is no extension for him?

Or center Nick Mangold. Or linebacker David Harris. Sorry, I don't get it.

Look, I love Rex and admire what he did in his first season with the Jets. But who doesn't? I just don't know that I like him enough to give him a contract extension after a 9-7 season. It reminds me of what Notre Dame did with Charlie Weis, and, sorry, I'd like to have at least another year on the resume before making this move. I'd also like to have Revis, Mangold and Harris locked up for another four or five years.

Rex doesn't need immediate attention. Revis, Mangold and Harris do. So you do Ryan first? And you do it on the basis of one season? Somebody please explain.

Why Rex and why now?

Rex Ryan  reminds me so much of the marshmellon man in Ghostbusters, now all he needs is a muzzle!

Why Rex and why now?

This has nothing to do with a 9-7 record.  This is about the image of the Jets.  The Jets have played second fiddle to the Giants forever, and now, they own New York.  That is why he was extended.  Woody Johnson likes what he sees.  The stigma of the "same Ole Jets" is gone and he wants to keep it that why.  With Ryan around, there is no "same Ole Jets."  There is only Ryan's Jets.

Why Rex and why now?

obviously if coaches and gm's dont count on salary cap why not??  Mr. T is dedicated to winning and wants a superbowl more than any GM out there. By the way who drafted Revis, Mangold, Harris , and Fergy? Who took the risk to move up and TAKE REVIS and Fergerson in the draft? that would be our GM MR.T

Why Rex and why now?

Easy...only the players count against the salary cap...
If we resign Darelle Revis to a retarded "Raider-esque" contract this year under no salary cap, it could kill all the progress we made up to this point.  Yes Nnamdi is a stud cornerback, but seriously contracts are getting way out of proportion.
Nick Mangold is a necessity, and so is David Harris.  Darelle Revis has to get dealt with this year just to keep him happy, (we still have him another 3 years)

So to be direct, we signed the GM who is making moves and bringing in talent.
We signed the coach that the players believe in, and brings in the money.  Yes he was a rookie head coach last year, and yes he did comparable as Eric Mangini first year, BUT the players believe in him.  Not just the "artificial" fans who pick them up when they were winning.

I for once agree completely with Judge. It is Weiss part deux. And we all know how he turned out.

Why Rex and why now?

So let me get this straight...Rex Ryan and the GM are offered Extensions both Rex and Mr. T sign...Now Ferguson, Revis, Mangold are offred an extension Ferguson signs...Revis and Mangold want more....

So according to Judge (are you kidding me?)  The Jets should ahve pulled the offers from Rex and Mr. T and said.."Hey, sorry but we can't accept your signatures because Mangold and Revis have not signed"  ?????

My goodness Judge I hope you never attempted o go to law school or to be an agent....2+2= 4...but reading you're article Judge you would think 2+2=5.

According to you,Judge if you were the owner you would simply stop all operations because 2 players refuse to sign?

Judge, do your self a favor...retire and get a job as a cashier in a supermarket...LOSER!
