Leinart should be concerned ... about getting cut

Matt Leinart wonders why he's not the starter in Arizona, but he has bigger concerns. He might not make the team.

I'm serious. People in and around the Cardinals' ballclub tell me that the former No. 1 pick might be cut, not because he hasn't completed a high percentage of passes -- because he has -- but because the players there have no faith in the guy and don't believe they can win with him.

If that is in fact the case, it's over. He not only won't make it as the team's starter; he won't make it, period.

Leinart complained that he's outplayed Derek Anderson, and he has -- if you're talking pure numbers. Leinart completed 82.6 percent of his passes this summer to Anderson's 58.5 and has a higher passer rating (110.3 to 70.3). But several players on the Cardinals say they have more confidence in Anderson than Leinart, who sat behind Kurt Warner the past two seasons. So that pushes him to the backup spot, but then the Cards have a couple of rookies --  Max Hall and John Skelton -- who look good enough to keep.

Except for one thing: If one is released he almost surely is claimed.

That brings us back to Leinart, and why the Cards would go into a season with two rookies as backups. The reason, people close to the Cards say, is that he might not be a positive influence in the No. 2 spot and might hold Hall and/or Skelton back. Coach Ken Whisenhunt has said the decision will be based on more than just stats, with the head coach citing "chemistry" as a key component, and that's where Leinart comes up short. Morever, there's a feeling that the Cards have given the guy plenty of time to prove he can make it at this level and are so frustrated that he isn't farther along they're contemplating the improbable.

I'm not saying Leinart gets cut, but I am saying it's a possibility. Matt Leinart should be worried -- about a lot more than just the starter's job.

Leinart should be concerned ... about getting cut

I guess the headline got everyone's attention. Yeah, I could see him getting cut, coaches seem to put a'lot of stock in "fit" and "chemistry" and whether they believe the player is a cancer or not (sometimes at the media's behest).  It's not very scientific or objective. It hardly seems fair to give up on the guy though, he's only had a handful of games as a starter.  How can you judge this guy on the minimal game time he's had to this point? True flame outs like Joey Harrington or Jamarcus Russell got at least 2 or 3 full years as starters before they were labeled a bust.  It might do him good to get cut or traded in the long run, sometimes people just need a fresh start. A team with a lack of QB depth could do worse than picking him up.

I'm not surprised Leinart may get cut...just watching him play, he  doesn't seem to have any leadership skills or any passion for the game. The guy has talent for sure, but it always seems like he's holding something back!

Didn't Carson Palmer have some pretty tough adjustments to the NFL too?  I just think it's too early to dismiss Leinart.  I would probably keep him the starter for Opening Day and if he can't get his rearend together, let Anderson move into the spot and see if he can complete any tough pass, if not, let Max Hall (I think) take over.  Watching that kid last week was pretty cool.  He played with lots of energy and his teammates seemed to respond to him very well.  Who thought that Leinart would have the "B" word floating over his head and Vince Young would be looking like a star and leader of a playoff team at this point?

Yeah Really TREZE DAILY get your shit straight before you start poppin off ish like you know what you're talking about>>  Garcia was another Arena Football Player when Warner played Arena Football.  Matter fact they played against eachother.  Garcia was on the Jersey Red Dogs and Warner on the Iowa Barnstormers.  Check your facts before you start spouting off trash.  As for Leinart, I don't really like the guy nor do I have an opinion.  I could care less what the Cardinals do.  Either way they won't win the division this year.  49ers are looking really good this preseason, and I'm ripping pissed my Gmen didnt grab Iupati.    Lein
art has yet to have done anything in the real games.  Matter fact he's been horrible in the regular season.  For the record, I would trust Wisenhunt if I were a Cardinals fan he's completely turned around the whole franchise.  I'd have him over Coughlin any day of the week.  Matter Fact the Gmen would be better off trading their 3rd and 4th round pick for Wisenhunt next year with the way Jerry Reese has been drafting these past couple years!

He should deffinately get cut ,,,, he has ben a big dissapointment, instead of parading the cocaine addict paris hilton all over town he should have been studying the playbook , and getting better as a quarter back , hes had plenty of chances and he has all the tools there in arizona to succeed , hes deserves a lesson in hard work and reality .

Actually they had a lot of confidence in Rogers as John Clayton reported at the beginning of that season.

hahah wow really... YES this guy should be cut, its more than his play, this guy just sucks in general. He does not carry himself as a leader on or off the field, so this article is correct , who wants to play with a guy like that??? He as been unable to make the jump from college to pros. Time for him to GO
