Vick, McCoy should start Sunday

Posted on: November 2, 2010 10:19 pm

Look for quarterbacks Michael Vick and Colt McCoy to start this weekend.

I know that's not exactly earth-rattling news, but neither the Philadelphia Eagles nor the Cleveland Browns have said anything definitive on the subject. However, sources close to both clubs insist they will start Vick and McCoy on Sunday.

Vick seems fully recovered from his rib injury, suffered a month ago against Washington, while McCoy will start over Seneca Wallace and Jake Delhomme. Neither McCoy nor Delhomme is ready to return, though Wallace reportedly is closer to recovering from his ankle injury.

McCoy is 1-1 as a starter, beating New Orleans before the Browns took last weekend off because of a bye, and team president Mike Holmgren on Tuesday said he would like a decision to made soon on his status for the future. As Holmgren conceded, that probably won't happen until Wallace and Delhomme are available.

Hey Bleed_Orange, good observation. You're not being anal. It looks like the writer's post got a 180 score even with this misprint, and I wouldn't even give it a 50.  Here's why:

The author of this report fully ignores some important facts, and even comparisons. While Jake Delhomme was designated the starter to open the season, we're talking about a guy that was a washout in Carolina. Wallace was designated the backup, and he's been a career backup and a washout at that. Like Sam Bradford, McCoy was one of College Football's top QB's last year. Sure, he doesn't have a  Heisman to his credit, nor was a 1st round pick. But he does have talent and is a proven winner. It took Sam Bradford three tries before he got his first win, while it took McCoy two, and you can't even compare the quailty of the team's either of them beat (Wash, N.O., respectively).  All the talk, second guessing and consideration about whether McCoy should start or not is a shame. Injuries to the other QB's aside, it makes no sense at this point for a team that is building for the future to not start him. The Rams did the right thing by committing to develop the QB they drafted this year, Cleveland should take note and do the same thing.  Perhaps that'll be what guarantees Mangini being around next year.  If he reverts to using either of the other two (washouts) if/when they get healthy, perhaps that'll be what guarantees he won't be.

I get that it's a blog-style entry, but quite frankly, I find this type of "journalism" insulting.

well, even if Delhomme is healthy, i would keep McCoy in, McCoy has more potential than Delhomme and i think he could win with this team, Wallace will likely and should start if healthy.

Don't mean to be anal, but don't you mean "Neither Wallace nor Delhomme is ready to return ..."
