Score one for Bills

Dave Wannstedt is back in the NFL, this time as an assistant head coach in Buffalo, and that is nothing but good for Chan Gailey.

First of all, Wannstedt has ample pro coaching experience -- as a defensive coordinator and as a head coach. Second, he can mentor defensive coordinator George Edwards and help him plug the league's worst run defense. Third, he can serves as a legitimate linebackers coach and help with one of the Bills' strongest areas. Last, he can act as sounding board for Gailey, whow as Wannstedt's offensive coordinator in Miami.

It's a no-lose situation for Buffalo and Gailey. I have no idea why things didn't work out in Cleveland, where Wannstedt interviewed, but bringing him to Buffalo should make life easier for Gailey, Edwards and the Bills.

I don't think Chan Gailey needs a "sounding board".  So sick of hearing that term thrown around.  Gailey's been a head coach before, and more successful than Wannie ever was.  The fact that Dave W. was hired as a position coach and couldn't even get a coordinator's job should only reinforce that this guy doesn't have what it takes.  In fact not ONE person in Buffalo's coaching and front office structure has what it takes.  They make idiotic coach hires, poor player decisions, poor stadium decisions, etc.  It all piles up year after year.  I don't care how old the owner is or what he did 20, 30 years ago... this franchise is a disgrace, and will continue to be for years to come.  The one stud they have, WR Steve Johnson is going to demand a new contract or a trade to escape this cesspool before his career disappears like Steve Smith in Carolina.  I wish someone was there to hold the OWNER accountable for putting out such a pathetic product such as this.  They need to get someone up there who knows what he's doing to hire a REAL GM, a REAL coach - a coach who will build a legitimate staff around him....and players who are actually good......

Finish a Sentence Star

You're breaking up, just like the Dolphins are. Have a nice trip down to Miami, just don't come back. The Bills do not want, or need you anymore. Adios

Agree Sox

He will help the Bills stop the run this year, and then he'll help stop Brady's dink and dunk passes to his over-rated TE's, and then, he'll help Poz become the pro bowler that we all know that he can be. The Buffalo Bills just got better today, and if you do not realize that, then you need to pack up, and move down to Miami and hang with the bottom dwellers of the division, for the next 5 years.

It is the way of the NFL, a lot of teams are coached by committee, where ass't coaches used to be head coaches. Dom Capers is the DC for the Packers, he used to be a head coach in the NFL. The more cooks in the kitchen the better.....I believe it is the wave of the future in the NFL.

Lizard,
As a lifelong Bills fan, I hate to admit it, but you are right. The only thing I see his presence bringing is controversy. Every time the Bills lose a game, fans and sports radio are going to clamor for Wannstedt to coach the team. Then, after Gailey gets fired, us Bills fans are going to have to endure 2-3 seasons of futility under him.

I would be much happier if Modrak was let go and replaced by somebody competent.

Yet another pathetic decision by a dysfunctional organization. Nothing changes until Ralph dies and I'm not sure good things will happen than either. Get the bags out for your heads Bills fan, management thinks they just pulled off a kuo. Truth is the Bills were competing against themselves for this loser.......

Wannstedt is not a good coach...was terrible for the bears...terrible for Pitt.  He never lived up to expectations.

When a coach comes from the college ranks to the pros, its usually because he's seen a great deal of success in the collegiate game.  you can't say that with any sincerity for this guy.  I like Gailey though.  That team is terrible but he game them some focus and some fight this year.
