McNabb on Eagles: The heat is on

Enough already.

One day it's Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. The next it's Nnamdi Asomugha. Then, Cullen Jenkins. Now the Philadelphia Eagles have reached a one-year deal with running back Ronnie Brown.

When does it end?

Once upon a time, the Eagles were so reluctant to make offseason splashes that former quarterback Donovan McNabb had to go public to urge the club to add playmakers. So it did ...  but only after McNabb exited for Washington, and, now Minnesota. Now that he's far, far away he has a intriguing perspective that he shared with me Tuesday afternoon after practice.

"I was there for 11 years, and the biggest thing we brought in was T.O. [Terrell Owens]," said McNabb. "Now they’re getting the so-called 'Dream Team.' It’s amazing, but I look back on my career and what they’re doing now ... that’s great; that’s excellent. But you’re seeing another side. You’re seeing Andy (coach Andy Reid) taking that chance. It’s not just taking that chance on one guy. They’re taking a chance on a bunch of guys. And they’re spending money. That’s amazing. Ever since the lockout [ended], teams have to spend money."

The Eagles have brought in a raft of free agents on offense and defense, including former Tennessee quarterback Vince Young, and the idea is clear: Identify the enemy, and load up. The Eagles have, and they're stalking Green Bay.

Once upon a time it was good enough to win the division and make the playoffs. Not anymore. With the moves Philadelphia keeps making the pressure grows on Reid and the coaching staff to deliver a Super Bowl, and McNabb knows it. As he said, he was there for 11 years, and he understands what fans will say about the Eagles because he's been there ... only not like this.

"With T.O.," he said, "after the first two or three weeks of training camp we felt like we had something. But you never say, 'Aw, we’re going to win the Super Bowl. Fans say that. Radio says that. But now they expect them to win.

"Now they bring in a Cullen Jenkins, and we all know he’s a dominant force. They bring in a Nnamdi Asomugha. You have Rodgers-Cromartie, who is the one they don’t mention the most because they have Asante Samuel, too. The problem is: What do you do with Asante Samuel?

"Then, you've got to worry about DeSean (Jackson). When he comes back are you going to give DeSean the ball or throw it to (Jeremy) Maclin? Remember, you have to give LeSean McCoy the ball, too. And then at the end you still have to pay Mike Vick. They have more problems than people are looking at."

We'll see.

McNabb on Eagles: The heat is on

What's going to happen if this Eagles team does not make it to the NFCCG, or even worse, loses their first playoff game. Sure, I'll buy into the hype that they should be better this season than last season. This is a Super Bowl or Bust approach. I don't know what their salary cap situation will be next season, or how many guys will be free agents, but I imagine it's not going to be easy keeping this team together.

But I'd rather see a team go for it all than stay just competitive enough to make the playoffs most years while some other team grabs the brass ring.

They will be one Heck of a paper team, shoot I'll even do better than that they will be an ALL STAR TEAM on the new Madden Game but getting all these personalities too mesh & come together in one season, Honestly, I don't see it, and Michael Vick will never win a Super Bowl as a starting QB in the NFL!!! Good Luck to the NFL version of the Miami Heat but they don't have 82 games to figure it out they have 10.

cnabb is sostupid. he had a stellar offensive line an all-pro do it all running back in westbrook and he comlains "no receivers" even when he had TOhe backed up reid and the front office and not owens when it came to his contract. no free agents? asante samuel, jason peters, jevon kearse, terrell owens? they made splashes but you couldnt get it done you hypocritical choker, youll never win anything

McNabb on Eagles: The heat is on

Okay... So I have been listening to this same report for the last couple days and quite honestly... It makes me sick...

Sorry, but I was a huge Donovan McNabb supporter for many years... I always respected his game and what he did for the Eagles organization. Honestly, it sounds to me like he is a little bit jealous of what the Eagles are doing this year. Honestly, it is the smartest thing any team can do... Think about it for one second... This year there was not as many OTA's, and Mini-Camps for teams to really evaluate their rookies. So the Eagles are bringing in Veteran players for key positions that understand how the NFL works and go from there. I heard McNabb say "Where is all this money coming from" Well stupid, take a look at what the Eagles are signing these players for... Chump Change compared to what they could have gotten from other teams. You don't think that Nnamdi left money on the table? What about Ronnie Brown? I read a report on another site that stated he had 5 offers and the Eagles were actually the lowest one on the table... What does that tell you? Players are seeing that the Eagles are doing something they like or they would have taken the money...

All in all, it really just seems like McNabb is a little bit jealous of what his Old, old team is doing and he wants to be a part of it. You don't think he is looking around the Vikings locker room and really wondering what he got himself into? He talks about all these players wanting the ball on offense... He talks like the players on offense are NEW!!!!!! Hello!!!!! We had these very same guys on offense, minus Ronnie Brown, and Donald Lee last season, and it seemed like it worked out pretty well if you ask me...

On Defense, the Eagles were torched for 31 Receiving TD's against... That is the second highest in the League... So like any good solid run team, they are going to address that need. So we trade Kolb, and get DRC... Solid pick up for a guy that is young and has many years left in the tank... Nnamdi happen to fall into our laps... The front office got into those talks late and just so happen, Nnamdi (surprise, surprise) wanted to come be an Eagle...

Call it what you will... McNabb sounds like a bitter old man who is mad that the Eagles are crying over his departure and they are actually moving on with their lives. News flash there Donovan... It is high time you did the same... Worry about what YOU can do to make your team better, Worry about what YOU can do to stop the Green Bay Packers who actually have a very good chance to re-peat and Super Bowl Champions... Stop worrying what is happening in the NFC East anymore... It is no longer your playground... Oh, and watch your head... we don't need any snow falling down and breaking your neck once the roof collapses again...

McNabb on Eagles: The heat is on

Oh please dont start this "Dream Team" b.s.  Leave that in the NBA, with the Miami Heat where it belongs.  Its not like Michael Vick went onstage with Nnamdai Asomugha and Ronnie Brown saying... "We're not gonna win 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, ect.  Championships".   Its not even close to that side show.

McNabb on Eagles: The heat is on

I'm glad Mcnabb made a lot of money in Philly.  hopefully it is enough for him to retire quietly when he's done playing. i'm aleady getting sick thinking he could end up as an espn analyst.

Delhomme as good as McNabb? Not hardly.
Webb as good as McNabb? Yeah, that's why the Vikes drafted Ponder and traded for McNabb.

I guess stats are overrated. LOL.

The utter hate and disgust some have for McNabb will never go away I guess.
