Patriots' D deserves an F

The AFC officially is up for grabs.

Once I thought the Patriots were the team to beat. Then I watched them get reamed, steamed and dry cleaned by Pittsburgh. Anyone with a defense this bad doesn't go far ... and if the Patriots don't make wholesale improvements in the league's worst defense they're not going anywhere.

Usually, Tom Brady is enough to save them from themselves. But not Sunday. Brady was frazzled, his receivers had trouble getting open and his offensive line committed dumb penalties. In short, the Patriots flat-out stunk. Never has a team deserved to lose more than New England did Sunday.

Look, Hines Ward didn't play. James Harrison didn't play. James Farrior didn't play. And LaMarr Woodley bowed out in the second half. Yet Pittsburgh still clobbered these guys.

Its first drive lasted 11 plays. Its second 16. The Steelers had the ball for 13:36 in the first quarter and 21:13 in the first half. I think you get the idea. They dominated their opponents and established themselves ... no, Baltimore ... no, Buffalo? ... somebody, anybody, as the team to beat in the AFC.

All I know is that New England's not that club. Not with this defense.

Seriously, Judge? Not the Dolphins against the Broncos last week. not the Redskins against Buffalo this week? The Pats played worse than those teams did, seriously? Give the Steelers credit for once, will you? They dominated the line, they didn't give Brady lots of time to throw and Big Ben made plays when they needed them. The Pats didn't play great on D,  but they didn't play that badly either.

It's funny the first line is "The AFC officially up for grabs" since it's the officials that let STEALERS got away with grabs all game. Watch the game, the Steelers defense held and held all game long. Not saying the Patriots shouldn't have lost, just they had a lot of help to make it a lost!

To me, there is only one team to beat in the entire league, and that is the Packers. The AFC? On a full-body basis, who has played like the so-called 'team to beat'? The Steelers were slaughtered by their division rival Ravens on opening day, so until they beat them next week, they've still been the second best team in their division. Those very same Ravens lost an ugly game against Jacksonville, and had to save themselves against the Cardinals today. Patriots have the worst D in the league, and lost to a division rival themselves. That team, Buffalo, just collected itself this season after years of much of nothing, so cross them off the list. The Jets lost 3 in a row, San Diego has never had a claim to this title and won't until they win something for real, and the Colts? Well, it's definately not those guys...

But since you must appoint a team to beat, may as well be Pittsburgh. Defending AFC champs tied for best record in conference. Explosive, star-studded roster. But don't sleep on the Denver Tebows, lol

Should Polamalu have been Pentalized for punching the ball, or am I right to continue to hate that snarky Phil Simms for saying it was, I thought only the offense couldnt do that

Clark,
"Then I watched them get reamed, steamed and dry cleaned by Pittsburgh."  What the hell does this mean?   Wait, it's better we don't know what else is going on in your head.  No explanation needed.

I'm not sure why it's such a mystery about who the team to beat is in the AFC.  The Steelers are the defending champs.  Until they are knocked out of the AFC Championship Game it should be clear to everyone.  Face it, the Steelers are the team to beat (not that it really means anything in October).  If they lose next week to the 9-7-bound Ravens, the Steelers will STILL be the team to beat (again, because it's only the first week of November).

Only fools wrote them off after week one, which was an aberration, particularly if you know anything about the Ravens-Steelers series over the past 4-5 years.

Once again the Pats are the team to beat and this time it was the Steelers turn.It will be 8 years and counting after this year since the Pats won a SB.That's a long time for the greatest QB of all time and a genius for a coach.
