Dream over for Eagles

And so the Dream is over.

With Sunday's 38-20 loss to New England, the Philadelphia Eagles -- aka, "The Dream Team" -- all but bows out of the playoff picture, alive only by simple math.

But the Eagles are toast, and fans know it. Which is why they started chanting "Fire Andy!" in the second half, or while the Eagles' defense was busy missing more tackles.

The Eagles stunk on defense. They stunk on offense. They were outscored 38-3 after jumping to a 10-0 lead. And they couldn't keep Julian Edelman -- yes, that Julian Edelman -- from making big plays on defense.

But that's a familiar story here, where the Eagles are 1-5 this season, and it's a reason why disgruntled fans want a change. I don't know what Philadelphia does after this year, but I do know it must make significant changes -- and I'd start with a defense that kept letting this team down.

Defensive coordinator Juan Castillo is on the hot seat, but so is Reid -- basically because he's responsible for hiring him. When Reid made the move, switching Castillo from offensive line coach to defense, he thought it made sense. And it did ... until games began, and the club continued to surrender fourth-quarter leads.

Well, now it surrendered the season, and after the moves Philadelphia made ... after the money it paid ... someone will be held acountable for the team's failures. Fans have made it clear whom they nominate, and this is bound to get ugly.

Stay tuned.

Dream over for Eagles

I thought everyone want to come to Philly to play with Mike.  How's that working out?

Reid is a fantastic coach, if he is fired about 20 teams in the NFL should immediately seek his services and fire their current coach.  The man is easily a top 5 coach in the NFL right now.  So he is having an off year this year with injuries and a transition with new players.  There was no training camp and they're in transition with a new system on defense with a lot of new players and problems with their WRs, OL and QB on offense.  The WRs all drop too many balls and turn the ball over, Reid understands this and that's why D-Jax is getting benched.  If Vick comes back he will perform better with Steve Smith, Avant and Celek as they are more sure handed.

The defense gets toasted both in the secondary and through the run.  The secondary is what is really so bad, Asomugha is not as good as Revis but Aso is at least a top 10 CB, and he hasn't been playing like that.  That would change next year too.  They just need to draft OL help and shore up their LBs a bit and they will be fine.  Vick needs to somehow stop getting injured, but that's also on the Eagles for not getting a good OL, and Vick for not getting the ball off fast enough or running and sliding.  If he slides and still gets hit hard, opposing defenses will get flagged, fined and probably suspended if they continue to blatantly rough him up, but Vick is stupid and says he won't slide.  A few slides and runs out of bounds and that would help him greatly for everything else, but he doesn't get it.

Give Reid another full offseason and he'll fix Vick and most of these other problems.

Yes, you can knock Andy Reid for this team and this defense. He is the head coach. He is over the whole team and he made sure that was clear this past offseason.

This is not like Buddy Ryan, who felt his own offense was just another team for his defense to hate.
Andy Reid did himself a huge disservice in moving Juan Castillo over to the D. They paid for the best man cover corner and stuck him in a zone. Brought in a decent man corner and he's in the zone, too. Eagles D-backs all too often lose receivers in coverage. Their blitz package is plain and does not do the job. Don't talk about the LBs because they are nothing special. And the front line was always small. The way to play that was to go man and add extra defender in different modes every play.

Castillo was hired to do more than learn on the job. Too much money was spent to be bold THIS season. But to make such a hire with no real offseason is the height of arrogance.

Reid made the out-of-the-box hire and someone has to pay for it. Juan Castillo should pack his bags. Maybe Reid, too.
If Reid is fired, he would have a new HC job in a month (if it's an after the season firing) with less power but time to build.

If he hangs on, he will get a chance to find a real defensive coordinator who would have control to do what he wants.

I hope he gets fired because he could use a new location to prove he still has it. But I doubt it.

Wow, some people never learn. Gloat over another team's flop and your team has to face them again.

Cowboys fans saying Philly sucks but Eagles routed Cowboys in their only game so far. Just because the Pats blew out the Eagles does not remove the blowout the Eagles put on Dallas. The only team to blow out Dallas so far. Was that just luck and do they really feel so confident about the rematch? Of course, the internet allows people not to face their mistakes. Eagles and Giants are still the best teams left for Dallas to play.

I love seeing this "Dream Team" blow up, just like the Heat. But the season is not over and they may still put some hurt on several other teams chances at the playoffs.

It would be next to impossible for the Eagles to take the division, but the way starting QBs are falling there is still a slim chance.

And, no, not what I want to happen.

Breaking news: Eagles fire Andy Reid, and hire Jeff Fisher.
In related news, Vince Young fresh of a 400 yard passing game, is spotted sitting on Broad street, fight tightly curled against his chest, rocking to and fro, saying, "Say it ain't so, say it ain't so".

Andy is a great coach and i still think he could lead a good team to a superbowl. but he is a big problem with the Eagles this year. They remind me of the Yankees back in the early 2000s...all the talent in the world without a gameplan to maximize it. At the end of the day though, the inability to tackle is the Eagles downfall and you can't knock Andy on that one

I'm thinking it might be time for Chucky to come out of retirement and coach the Eagles.  I think he might be a good fit.  Hate to see Andy go, but he made some bonehead moves this off-season.
