Lance's Comeback

Posted on: July 4, 2009 10:03 pm
After three years of retirement, Lance's return to the Tour de France was impressive. He is 10th after the first time trial. Think about those athletes who have retired and returned to their sport. Often, even the best lik Michael Jordan, start a little rusty.  Lane will likely take a week or so to get his mind back into shape.  I wonder if his body is in shape for this rigorous month long race. Remember, Lance was in a biking accident less than two months ago where he broke his collar bone.  With limited training, he comes back with an impressive start, signaling to the rest of he Tour that Armstrong is still strong.  As an aging athlete, I always pull for the older athletes of all sports.  I'm pulling for Lance to win it all.  As a side note, Levi Leipheimer is looking good too, finishing the first leg in about 5th place. Go USA, go Armstrong.  Let's see the 8th Tour win for the "ages."

Lance's Comeback

Something was wrong with my math!!!  They peddle almost 130 MILES A DAY!    Up and down MOUNTAINS!

Lance's Comeback

This is a very grueling sport.  They pedal 50 something miles a day, I believe (up and down mountains!).  This has to be the toughest thing imaginable, and there goes Lance, back in the midst of it all.  Now in 3rd place and only a few seconds behind first place.  And drug free (I quit watching after the Floyd Landis fiasco).  I find myself tuning in just to see how Lance is doing.

To me, he is the most amazing athlete of all time.  To come back from cancer where he was given only a 30% chance to survive and then to come back and win 7 Tour de France championships in a row.  Then retire and come back again.  What a story!  Go Lance!

Lance's Comeback

I like what you said about the return of aging athletes (I'm in the same boat), and although I'm not an avid Tour de France observer, I, too, would like to see Lance Armstrong succeed. It says a lot to the younger generation (not only athletes, but everyone) about what it takes to make a comeback as an aging athlete -- a great deal of intestinal fortitude and determination...something that doesn't come easy for most. I believe Lance has what it takes to be a winner again. GO LANCE!!!
