GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME BRACKET

Who is the greatest rock show live.   I saw four hours of Quodrophenia live then they played their greatest hits.

The Who played nonstop with constant rotations and outlasted what I saw from Metallica.

I never got to see them with Keith Moon but Zach Starkey (the drummer I saw them with) was awesome and was & is better than his pops, Ringo Starr.

The Stones put on a nice show but not the same caliber as the Who.

Best Live Party Band: INXS

I have yet to catch Pink Floyd but someday, someday soon!

GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME BRACKET

Hey DD - Where does all this lead?

Maybe we could do this again with another genre! I had a blast working on this.

And, getting into arguments over artists!

GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME BRACKET

lute

Your take on Who's Next got you added to my favs. I voted for it here and also think it very well could be the greatest Rock album of all. It was one of the first 2 CDs I bought to replace vinyl. The other one also was a loser in the first round and that was Moondance

GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME BRACKET

#1 - Dark Side of the Moon -- This is  a travesty. No way that "Who's Next" should be up against this album. It deserves better.
#2 - Sgt Peppers -- Much Stronger Album
#3- Led Zeppelin IV -- The Joshua Tree is a fine album, but you can't compare to this masterpiece
#4 - Wired -- A VERY difficult match up. I wore out the vinyl of Aja, but this is Jeff Beck at his very best
#5 - Moondance -- Abbey Road is not strong enough to beat this fantastic, flawless album. (Too much Paul. Revolver better)
#6 - Eat a Peach -- MUCH Stronger than Led Zeppelin III.
#7 - Exile on Main Street -- Stones must advance
#8 - Highway 61 -- Boston??? Are you people voting for Boston? Honestly?

Just to continue my thought on #1. The Who was one of the most important bands to come out of the so-called British Invasion. 'Who's Next'[, is arguably their best album, with two absolute staples of AOR radio, "Won't Get Fooled Again" and "Baba O'Riley."  And let's not leave out  "Bargain", "Love Ain't For Keeping", "Going Mobile", and "Behind Blue Eyes". This album is an absolute classic.

From AMG-
Much of Who's Next derives from , an ambitious sci-fi rock opera abandoned after suffering a nervous breakdown, caused in part from working on the sequel to . There's no discernable theme behind these songs, yet this album is stronger than , falling just behind as the finest record the Who ever cut. developed an infatuation with synthesizers during the recording of the album, and they're all over this album, adding texture where needed and amplifying the force, which is already at a fever pitch. Apart from , the Who have never sounded as LOUD and unhinged as they do here, yet that's balanced by ballads, both lovely ("The Song Is Over") and scathing ("Behind Blue Eyes"). That's the key to Who's Next -- there's anger and sorrow, humor and regret, passion and tumult, all wrapped up in a blistering package where the rage is as affecting as the heartbreak. This is a retreat from the '60s, as declares the "Song Is Over," scorns the teenage wasteland, and bitterly declares that we "Won't Get Fooled Again." For all the sorrow and heartbreak that runs beneath the surface, this is an invigorating record, not just because runs rampant or because has never sung better or because spins out manic basslines that are as captivating as his "My Wife" is funny. This is invigorating because it has all of that, plus laying his soul bare in ways that are funny, painful, and utterly life-affirming. That is what the Who was about, not the rock operas, and that's why Who's Next is truer than or the abandoned . Those were art -- this, even with its pretensions, is rock & roll.
