GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME, THE FINAL FOUR!

I haven't been on this thread while you folks ran down your lists of great music. I hope you don't mind my opinion.... After reading a number of the posts here I must agree with bricktop. He sums it up pretty well. Favorite music is usually from your age group and what was popular when you were first getting into it. I do agree DSM would top the charts if released today. The same could be said for Exile on Main Street or Zep 4. I don't think Highway 61 would make the cut today. Despite it's ground breaking appeal to the youth of the sixty's, those days are gone. I sure it would have some limited appeal, as would Hank Williams, Eddy Arnold, Patsy Cline or Frank Sinatra today. I'm also sure a number of posters here wouldn't know one from the other in that group. The Greatest Album of all Time is indeed a pretty heady title. It needs to mean something more than just the most recognized album name. Highway 61 changed heads & music. The Beatles changed the face and fabric of music. Dark Side of the Moon changed the way music was listened to. What album can lay claim to a longer stay atop Rock's 100 than DSM ? (was PF rock anyway?) I sincerely think the Stones with more than 250 titles everyone will recogize, and hundreds more rule the rock roost in sheer numbers. They are still going and selling new music after 45 plus years. The Who, Zepplin and Chuck Berry mastered Rock & Roll and the way it was played. There are many that can claim that trophy. No insult is intended or meant for all the GREAT ones not mentioned here, there are tons of them. Where is the new rock music on the radio? Short of Mick and Co find me some Rock & Roll on the radio made by the classic rockers you've voted for? Did anyone buy the last Dylan album? Where are you Roger Waters, Robert Plant and Axl Rose?..... Anyone here care for the blues, jazz or pop country? Just a few thoughts and some food for thought about an impossible task. Good luck and thanks for reading. Send me a private message with any comments. I don't&nbs
p;want to clog DDriver80's blog with the answers to my questions. Comments always welcome.

Thank you DD for attracting a fine group of like minded people.

GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME, THE FINAL FOUR!

Age definitely plays a big factor in music taste and many people mistake popularity for talent but i would be willing to bet that if no one had ever heard of Pink Floyd and they arrived on the music scene today and released Dark Side Of The Moon it would still be a smash hit. That's what makes music great though is everyones tastes being diverse.

GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME, THE FINAL FOUR!

Motley Crew, I agree with your thinking that Sgt. Peppers is horribly overrated and that the Beatles have other albums that are far superior.

Also, you should be even more suprised to learn that Appetite For Destruction was neer even in this competition.

GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME, THE FINAL FOUR!

Well since somehow Guns N Roses "Appetite for Destruction" did not get this far...unbelievable...I would have to say Moon vs. IV in the Finals.   Still can't believe the greatest album ever "AFD" did not even get to the FInal 4 of this thing.   New to this thread and catching up but stunned.   For the record, my finals vote is for IV as it should get there.   Lonely Hearts Club is one of the Beatles worst albums and only because it placed real high on the musically snobbish Rolling Stones Top Albums list do people think so.    What about Revolver?   That is the Beatle's best work.   Not sure how any Bob Dylan album would get this far either.

GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME, THE FINAL FOUR!

My opinion is.... make it a tie and toss in the Stone's Sticky Fingers and Bat out of Heel by Meatloaf. If I had to take one, I'd plead the fifth.

I won't be here for the finals but I'm voting Pink Floyd for the win on my absentee ballot.

GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME, THE FINAL FOUR!

#1  Dark Side of the Moon--Pink Floyd

#2  Sgt. Peppers--The Beatles

I'm not sure that's the best Beatles album or the best Led Z. album but I'm not sure we always get the best four in the Final Four either.  Love the Floyd to win it all.
