DD's Pre-Season predictions

the PATRIOTS, will be there for sure but not due to being a GREAT team. don't get Me wrong, they are a good team but, most of what they do is due to the competition(or, lack thereof,), within their own division. they are big fish, in a small pond. however, with all of the teams in the AFC EAST.

Well, least we forget, that they did go 4-0 during the regular season against the (TOUGHEST DIVISION IN FOOTBALL)

Winning at the location of thier 2 best teams Dallas + NYG.

Great Blog DD - Some Gutsy calls on your part especially Indy !

DD's Pre-Season predictions

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I don't think you are giving enough credit to a few teams and too much credit to another few teams.

  1. I don't think that the Cardinals will win the division and if they do it will not be with a 13-3 record maybe 10-6 but more realistically 9-7.
  2. There is no reason to believe that the Seahawks will lose 10 games
  3. I cannot forsee the Falcons winning more than 4 games this year there are way too many holes on that team.
  4. I think that depending upon the play of whichever QB Mangini goes with the Jets will be a better team this year. the offensive line additions alone should amount to at least two more wins than last year which would put them at about six maybe seven.
  5. Again staying in the AFC East I think that the Bills will be competitve again this year but I don't see them getting to the playoffs for at least another year.
  6. Regardless of what the "experts" say I really think that the Super Hangover will affect the Patriots and they will probably win no more than 10 games. The defense is too inexperienced in the secondary and the LB corps as a whole is ancient! Even with the addition of Jerod Mayo it will not be all that stellar.
  7. The Broncos have been slipping over the last couple of years and you can expect them to slip again this year because they have had poor drafts and keep changing things on the defense which sucks as a unit. The only thing good on that defense is Champ Bailey, Dre Bly is one of the most overrated CB's in the league.
  8. the Chargers have to deal with Philip Rivers coming back from an ACL tear and we all know that those take at least a full year for a guy to be close to back to normal and it will not be until the end of the season before that one year mark comes up. LaDainian Tomlinson was finally proven to be human after all. While I expect him to be a very productive player again this year I would not be surprised if the guy gets injured again this year. That would throw a wrench in their offense wouldn't it?!
  9. The Raiders have some new offensive weapons and should be exciting to watch this year. The defense is still suspect until proven otherwise. I can easily see this team being 8-8 maybe with a good run in the beginning of the season they may even get 9 wins.
  10. There is no way that the Colts only win 8 games this year and the Titans win 9! They proved they can still produce offensively without Marvin Harrison. The Titans defense lost more players than they gained in the offseason so I would expect the defense to slip some this year and I just don't ever see Vince Young doing what Steve McNair did. He is just not good enough as a NFL QB.

There you go 10 holes in your predictions!

DD's Pre-Season predictions

DD you made a lot of gusty picks, I like it.  Most have already beat me to the Wow picks you made.  The Colts finish LAST in the division, I can only hope (never been much of a Manning fan, and no, I'm not a Pats fan either).  Also the Texans going 4-2 in the division, thats a wild call.  I'm asuming you think they win out at home and lose to Jacksonville and Indy on the road.

Arizona 13-3 WOW.  I guess you believe Leinart pulls it together and becomes the QB many thought he could be.  Az is certainly in the right division to make a move like this.

Steelers go 9-7, I guess you think losing Fanaca was abigger deal then they do.  Although really this is close to what I think (10-6) so I guess we don't differ all that much.  Its just there seem to be such a mental difference between a 10 win season and a 9 win one.

Lastly, the Jets 3-13!!! After all the money they spent on free agents this off-season.  A lot of heads will roll in Jersey if you are right.

DD's Pre-Season predictions

Once again, You and, the "EXPERTS", over at ESPN, are WRONG. as We all know, the NFC EAST(TOUGHEST DIVISION IN FOOTBALL), traditionally send 3 of Our 4 teams, to the playoffs. You are correct in Your assumption tha PHILADELPHIA, will make the playoffs, this year but, it will be as a wildcard with the GIANTS and, COWBOYS, finishing ahead of them and, in that order. the PATRIOTS, will be there for sure but not due to being a GREAT team. don't get Me wrong, they are a good team but, most of what they do is due to the competition(or, lack thereof,), within their own division. they are big fish, in a small pond. however, with all of the teams in the AFC EAST, beginning to rebuild, within a few years, they will begin to find it hard to win in their own division and, the quarterback that, everyone likes to compare to Joe Montana, will likely more resemble Steve Grogan or, Tony Eason. as for the NFC NORTH, MINNESOTA, will be 2 games better than GREEN BAY(new quarterback learning curve) and, win the division. furthermore, CAROLINA, will win the NFC SOUTH, due to having a quarterback again. still, some of Your predictions, look pretty good therefore, XLIII, looks like JAGUARS-GIANTS. champs repeat.

DD's Pre-Season predictions

13-3 is ballsy for Arizona, but they have a weak division. If they prove to be the best team in the NFC West, 5-6 wins isn't out of the question from division foes. I can see them going 10-6 if things go their way.

DD's Pre-Season predictions

Yeah the Colts have a lot of questions, and are bound to have an off year pretty soon. The AFC South is probably the toughest division in football, so I could see it being this year.

Like I said, I hope you're right.

Risky pick with the Cards at 13-3 too, but if they ever put it all together they'll be a dangerous teams. Based off last year's standings your picks look like they have no chance of happening. But as we all have learned in the NFL the last 10 years, it's unpredictable and you can't be afraid to pick the unexpected. I like it.

DD's Pre-Season predictions

Wow, DD; thanks for the props for my Bills!

I think they should at least smell the playoffs up to the last week.  The defense is going to be much better (thank God) thanks to FA and draft.  But boy, are the Jets gonna be THAT bad?!  Well, the QB situation is definitely a mess.. and especially if they have Clemens start.. God knows there hasn't been a good NFL QB from Oregon in, well, pretty much forever.  I think Miami will have a worse record and possibly another 1-win season (I was so upset that they won against Baltimore; winless season to blot out the perfect '72 season would have been awesome).

DD's Pre-Season predictions

The thing with the Colts is:

A) What will happen with Harrison, the injury and the whole shooting fiasco.

B) They lost Jake Scott, a key member of their O-Line

C) Does Ugoh improve as a LT, he was beat a few times last year, will he improve.

D) How badly will the loss of Morris on defense affect the team.  The linebacking corps looks very weak

E) The corners are young and inconsistent.

DD's Pre-Season predictions

I hope you're right with your Jags pick. As a fan, I think they need a little more to get over the hump.

I also love the Colts 8-8 pick. Somehow I think it'll be wrong, but I can always hope you're right.
