TUCSON, Ariz.(AP) -- Arizona incoming freshman Emmanuel Negedu has asked coach Lute Olson to release him from his letter of intent to play for the Wildcats.
Negedu, a 6-foot-7 forward, told the Tucson Citizen he wants out because he's not sure who will coach the team next season.
Olson, who took a surprise leave of absence last season, announced he will be back to coach the Wildcats. Still, Negedu said he's not convinced. He told Olson on Sunday that he no longer wants to go to Arizona.
"There have been so many changes that I feel they've lied to me all along about the situation," Negedu said. "Everything has changed a lot since I've signed down there. I can't take it no more."
Olson could not be reached for comment.
Negedu previously played at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H. If Olson does not grant him his release, Negedu said he'll return to the academy for another year, hopeful that he'll get re-recruited to go to another school.
"Before I signed with Arizona they said it was fun, the players loved it and everything," he said. "But when I took my official visit no one seemed happy. Everything changed. Lute Olson left, taking a break. No one (knew) where he went."
Arizona went 19-15 last season and drew its 24th straight NCAA tournament appearance, extending the nation's longest active streak. The Wildcats were eliminated by West Virginia in the first round.
