Dantheman's Bracketology: March 1st

Posted on: March 1, 2009 10:17 pm

My new bracketology is finally out but before you check out the seedings below there's a few things you need to know. The first and most important thing is that this is JUST the seedings. The complete matchups, bracket, and regions are available here .

NOTE: The only difference between these seedings and my pairings is that I could not locate the North Dakota State logo here on CBS, so instead I used Oral Roberts for the seedings. It doesn't matter at this point because the auto bid has not been handed out for the Summit League just yet.

Dantheman's Bracketology: March 1st

Michigan State definitely needs to be a #2 here. I'd put them easily over Memphis and Kansas, and probably Duke too (though that's debatable). I'd put them over Kansas because Michigan State has more quality wins, and when they played each other Michigan State thumped Kansas pretty good... Michigan State's list of quality wins is much, much longer than Memphis. Comparing MSU and Duke I don't have a whole lot of evidence to back that up, I just believe MSU is better, but either way, Michigan State does deserve a #2.

That's the only real gripe though, overall it's a very well put together list, better than I could do I'd bet...

Duke a #2??   please!!!!  After Duke gets demolished by UNC on Sun   and then loses in the semifinals of the ACC tourney, Mich St will claim a 2 seed by virtue of their big ten tourney win

Dantheman's Bracketology: March 1st

I think that two other teams to consider are the Cincinnati Bearcats and Providence Friars.  Both have solid records each with there own personal woes but I think that come selection Sunday one, if not both, of these teams will get in.

Xavier is not that good.

Illinois beat Purdue. Twice.

Cal is not that good

Miami and Michigan will get lucky to get in.

Penn St. is better than Michigan

UCLA is not that good

What has Florida State done all year?

Bringing up the 5 / 12 matchup, i feel that ASU if they finish at the 5 will be upset.  As an arizona fan i am biased, but this is not a top 20 team.  This team beat two low teams by 1 point each in early tournaments in Arizona (neutral courts).

Also ASU's zone D will be punctured by more deliberate Mid majors that can stroke it from out side.

First of all, great work on the bracket. Looks like you put a lot of effort and research into these picks. As a Big Ten fan, the first thing I noticed was you included 8 teams from the conference. That was more than I expected to see. I would suspect that depending on how they do in the conference tournament, Michigan and Penn State may not make the field.

Wisconsin's RPI is right around 30, so 8 or 9 is probably the right seed at this point.

I think Michigan State should be higher than a 3 -- they are leading the #2 RPI conference and just won at a very tough IL team, an IL team that had been playing very well of late. If Michigan State takes the B10 tourney they may claim the final #1 seed. That double-digit win over KU is looking pretty good right now.

I can see you arguing Michigan State-Duke but not Michigan State-Kansas. The Jayhawks are certainly a 2 and if Michigan State plays well down the stretch they will probably get a 2.
