I am going to preview every single conference tournament one by one. Instead of what I initially started I am going to do them all on separate blog entries because I feel like this will give everyone a chance to discuss these conference tournaments. It will give them a home where everyone can join in and post their thoughts. Please comment.

Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament:

Quarterfinals
#4 Lipscomb (March 5th)
#5 Campbell

#3 Belmont (March 5th)
#6 Mercer

#2 East Tennessee State (March 4th)
#7 Stetson

Semifinals
#1 Jacksonville (March 6th)
Lipscomb/Campbell Winner

Belmont/Mercer Winner (March 6th)
Steston/East Tennessee State Winner

Championship: March 7th

Prediction: Usually these smaller conference tournaments can be a toss up. I really think three teams have a legit chance at being the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament champion. I had Belmont before the season, but both Jacksonville and East Tennessee State are playing extremely well. I wouldn't be surprised if either of those two teams win it. Yet even with that I have to go with Belmont in an upset.  Anything short of a NCAA Tournament appearance would be devastating to the Bruins.

To be honest, I wanna see either East Tennessee State or Jacksonville win the Atlantic Sun title. Belmont has been to the big dance three years in a row and you can get kind of tired of seeing the same team win but Belmonet has experience on their side. THE WINNER: JACKSONVILLE

I got Belmont, with the only other upset as Campbell over Lipscomb in the first round.  Otherwise it goes by seeds.

Conference Tournament Previews: Atlantic Sun

Hey Dan, I enjoy reading your stuff.  I think Belmont has a great advantage in their experience and they have a solid, balanced roster.  However, I noticed something about the schedule of the Atlantic Sun tournament:

East Tennessee State has the second seed and plays the only game on Wednesday, which is an advantage because the other two first round games are on Thursday, including Belmont vs. Mercer.  Jacksonville has a bye and plays it's first on Friday in the semifinals, which means ETSU has a day's rest before possibly playing Belmont on Friday.  The finals are then on Saturday....

Sorry if that was confusing, but that means that Belmont would have to play three straight days while the other top seeds won't.  It seems weird that the format is like this, but it could offer the Bruins a disadvantage.  Just an observation...

They played a tough non-conference which included wins at Auburn and at Alabama.

And they beat both Auburn and Alabama and had Georgia Tech on the ropes.

I also think that a darkhorse pick could be Mercer.  They played a tough non-conference which included wins at Auburn and at Alabama.  They also have split games with Belmont, so they won't be intimidated by them.

I am gonna go with East Tennessee State in a mild upset here.  They proved during the year that they could beat their two biggest competitors in Belmont and Jacksonville.  Plus they have a great player by the name of Courtney Pigram that can really light it up.
