Dantheman & Wizardking's NCAA Tournament Preview

Posted on: March 16, 2009 9:58 pm

Guys Wizardking and I have now completed our NCAA Tournament preview. It's not the most professional sounding thing ever but it is informative. I will have my complete preview posted soon hopefully, depending on how my wrist is feeling.

Midwest Region
East Region
West Region
South Region

It took about three hours of work. I know it may be tough to be patient and listen to it but please at least check out what we have to say about your favorite team. The podcasts get better the farther you go down the list (it seems like we got more comfortable).

Dantheman & Wizardking's NCAA Tournament Preview

I think Illinois is being overrated here.  I have Western Kentucky beating them.

Syracuse and Oklahoma should meet in the Sweet 16, assuming fatigue doesn't catch up to the Orange.  In that game, I'm not sure who would win...in one bracket I'm going with OK, Syracuse in the other.

I think North Carolina gets to the Elite Eight fairly easily, and then their talent will overwhelm whoever ends up coming out of the other half of the bracket.  I'm not a Carolina (or ACC) fan...they just seem to be too talented and too motivated to not make the Final Four.

Good job on the podcasts...OH SO THATS WHAT this is all about? how bout them sooners. ou will clown this year

Re: West

I think UConn and Missouri will make it to the Elite Eight, and that Missouri could win.

I just can't see anybody being able to neutralize Thabeet until UConn faces Missouri or Memphis.  I'm not exactly a Memphis lover, but they're a pretty good team and I think they're going to be motivated by getting a #2 seed.

I think the "big" upset in the region will be Northern Iowa over Purdue.  I also have Maryland over Cal...but 10 over 7 doesn't really seem like a big upset, especially when they're both power conference teams.

Re: East

Xavier looks like the weakest #4 seed to me.

One thing the listeners should note that wasn't really covered is how scattershot Texas has been.  I watched just about all of their games, and they were pretty inconsistent, and had a pretty bad three-game losing streak.  From game to game, I was never quite sure which Texas team would show up.  I do agree that Dogus Balbay has generally improved the team; however, he is somewhat of a liability since his jumpshot is worse than Rajon Rondo's.

Texas could beat Minnesota by 20, or they could just as easily lose by 20.  Hell, for all I know, they could wax Minnesota, and then take out the Dookies too.  It's just difficult to predict how they'll play.

I also think Villanova is going to meet Pittsburgh in the Elite Eight.  They may have trouble with Dexter Pittman if they play Texas, though.

In the end, I think Pittsburgh will win this region.  I don't like picking #1's either...but I have trouble believing Villanova, Dook, or Texas could knock them off.

Re: Midwest

Is it possible that Utah is "overseeded" because having WVU at #5 would present a possible Sweet 16 matchup between the Mountaineers and Louisville?

Personally, I disagree that they're overseeded.  They won their conference tournament and were in a three-way tie for the regular season title.  I know the Mountain West isn't one of the "best" conferences, but Utah was clearly the best team in it, and seems to be duly rewarded for it.

Other than that, no complaints.  I also think Louisville will win the region.

Good job, gents.
