Mock draft 2008 = A salute to Minus the Pain

Hey Vegas, can you do me a huge favor and look me up A.S.A.P.???

I have restructured the mock draft now that the Combines and most of Free-Agency is over.

You can view it at  but I would like to post it here somehow.

Thanks I appreciate it as always.

Mock draft 2008 = A salute to Minus the Pain

Good take on the Dallas draft Vegas!

I am sorry to everyone that I have not been around more to write.  But this is the busiest time of year for me in that I am constantly covering the draft and NASCAR as well.   I have finished covering the Combine and am now forcussed on ProDays.  Now that the free agents are drying up I can reevaluate the draft and send the updates soon.  Hope to hear from you all!  Take care.

You are absolutely right minus.  As much though as i would like to have a Mc fadden on the team I do not bellieve it is in the best interest of the tem to throw away 2 soild first round picks for the chance at a guy who could come to play and get beat up right away and not be able to perform possibley. i would rather wait and see who is available down the line. Maybe one who is not so beart up from college play and would love to be the speedster to Barbers Barbarian style. I am fully aware that Marion Barber can not go the distance every game and that he is best utillized as he was in the '07 season. Barber can and will beat you down late in the game after you are tired of beeing man handled by the massive o- line. that is where Barber is at his best but he needs some one else to get in there who will make the big runs and and tire out the defences first.

Mock draft 2008 = A salute to Minus the Pain

Funny thing is Vegas, I can have all the opinion and info I need and then they will go out and draft a Punter (J/K) or something that totally throws all my knowledge into the gutter.  That is the way it goes when you are trying to predict the actions of others.  Here is to hoping I am at least making sense and when the draft rolls around that I am at least close.  That is why I would NEVER judge anyone by their opinion and why I appreciate everyone when their opinions differ from mine.  None the less, thanks for the kind words and support.

Now, let's explore the McFadden to Dallas scenario a bit further.  I have mentioned before that trades within the top 10 picks are rare.  Teams typically would rather take a few chances on a group of slightly lesser talented athletes than pay HUGE amounts of guaranteed money on a single player.  Now, with that being said, I do not think RB- M. Barber is an every down back so the Cowboys will have to have someone that can come in a give him a few breathers.  The RB position will be a need whether Barber resigns or not.  Jerry Jones can be a ruthless owner and honestly, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he traded both his 1st Round picks for RB- D. McFadden.  McFadden also loves the Cowboys as well, Dallas was his favorite team growing up and landing there is something he has always dreamed of.  I suppose like many people, I appreciate the drama and excitement of draft-day trades.  But, when making decisions of this nature you almost have to go with the percentages.  A trade for a top 5 pick like McFadden happens so rarely I cannot justify making such a bold prediction.  Add to the fact that this is such a strong RB class, Dallas would be better served keeping their picks and still drafting a good RB anyhow.  Then again, ANYTHING goes when you are Jerry Jones.

Free Agent updates soon to come.

Mock draft 2008 = A salute to Minus the Pain

This ia exactly why I dedicated this blog to you. you have realy put a great expalination on what the Cowboys can do with their draft. They are in need of those positions and would do themselves justice by filling them in the draft. Thank you for the in input and the supieror explaination Minus. You truely are testament to sports reporting and anallysis.

Mock draft 2008 = A salute to Minus the Pain

Many people, much like myself, appreciate the way you think Vegas.  The Dallas Cowboys have 3 major needs: CB, RB, and WR (in that order).  The Boys' also have a few options such as Free Agency and Draft Trades as well.  What they will do when it is all said and done remains a mystery, but lets explore the possibilities.   The CB position is the most glaring need for <st1:city><st1:place>Dallas</st1:place></st1:city>
and there will still be a few quality CB's around late in the first round of the draft and on into the second round.  At the RB position, the Cowboys have lost  Julius Jones as an Unrestricted Free Agent.  Look for Jones to possibly sign with the Lions or Titans this offseason.  I believe they will resign RB- Marion Barber to a long-term contract after placing the highest tender possible on a restricted free agent.  Another team could still sign him but that would mean having to give up a 1st & <st1:street><st1:address&g
t;3rd Rd.</st1:address></st1:street
> pick for him plus a high enough contract the Cowboys couldn't match, which for a guy like Barber may just be too high a price for other teams to pay.  Also, with the release of RB- Warrick Dunn, <st1:city><st1:place>Dallas</st1:place></st1:city>
may sign him on the cheap and have a quality, veteran, 3rd Down RB.  Other options may include owner Jerry Jones, who hasn't been shy about how much he covets RB- Darren McFadden, trading BOTH his <st1:street><st1:address&g
t;1st Rd.</st1:address></st1:street
> picks to get McFadden at #4 overall.   Lastly, now that WR- Jovan Walker has signed with the Raiders that leaves the WR free agent market pretty slim in pickings, but the Cowboys receiving corps isn't getting any younger either..   Now, with ALL that being said, what will the Dallas Cowboys do?  Here is the 'smart money':  I believe in the end <st1:city><st1:place>Dallas</st1:place></st1:city>
will end up getting all three position needs met via the draft.  With the RB and CB positions being very strong this draft, why trade <st1:street><st1:address&g
t;two 1st Rd.</st1:address></st1:street
> picks for a guy you aren't 110% sure is worth it?  Nowadays NOONE is 110% a 'sure thing'.  Overall you have a better chance of getting lucky with one of the later picks than you do putting all your stock into one player.  The reason they still pick WR- DeSean Jackson at #22?  First, they obviously need to get younger at the WR position.  But they can still get a couple more years out of T.O. and T. Glenn.  Where <st1:city><st1:place>Jackson</st1:place></st1:city>
would really earn his paycheck in his first few seasons is by being the return specialist.  He could see significant time on special teams all the while learning from the veteran WR's.  This dual threat makes him the most valuable at this pick.  Plus, there will still be 2-3 quality CB, and 1-2 quality RB to choose from., but hardly any <st1:street><st1:address&g
t;1st Rd.</st1:address></st1:street
> quality talent at the WR position.  So, they go with a dual threat WR first.  With the 28th pick they could have a shot at CB- Antoine Cason from Arizona & CB- Reggie Smith from <st1:state><st1:place>Oklahoma</st1:place></st1:state>
;, but I believe they go RB here.  RB- Felix Jones may turn out to be even better than DMC, due to the fact he has significantly less wear and tear on his body from his college days at <st1:state><st1:place>Arkansas</st1:place></st1:state>
;.  Jones would be a very nice change of pace back to starter Marion Barber.  Now, here is where the Cowboys truly will make their draft special...  Their first pick in the second round could be a first round talent in CB- Branden Flowers from Virginia Tech.  I doubt Flowers will fall to Dallas, but Jerry Jones I believe will get aggressive and move up to get him.  The bottom line is, as long as the Dallas Cowboys draft all the need positions, they could honestly have <st1:street><st1:address&g
t;3 first Rd.</st1:address></st1:street
> talents and come away from the draft happier by having hung onto their two first rd. draft picks.  Hardly is the world perfect, but this would be a perfect world for any Cowboys fan on draft day.

Mock draft 2008 = A salute to Minus the Pain

You know what though i was looking at the draft and thinking that there are a lot of great CB's out this year and that is surely a weakness in the Dallas defense. I wonder If the Cowboys will take a CB with thier first pick then get a Wr with the second, which is only 5 spots away...

Things that make you go HMMM....

Mock draft 2008 = A salute to Minus the Pain

Thanks again to all the supporters of this thread.  The backing, comments, and opinions truly mean a ton to me.

As soon as the dust settles on all the NFL free agency I will post some updates on the mock draft.  Teams have started to fill holes in their lineups and that will have a definate effect on how each team drafts.

As Moeggenj has mentioned (thanks for the plug) and I am sure I have mentioned (another shameless plug... bear with me), I do write for a few websites and other forums.  I will most likely edit and use some of my posts from this blog and other posting I have written here on those forums as well.  In addition, I will also have a few polls for you to vote on.

If you would like to comment or vote on a poll please register at or under forums.  It is free with a customizable personal profile, and there is plenty more content on those sites.  The forum section of those sites have been reformatted and will be updated with content soon.  But you can register anytime.

Thanks again everyone.  5 Stars and Adds for all.
