Week 14 NFL Picks & Predictions

Hey, How's everyone doing?  10-6 last week; not horrible, but not great either.  Here are my picks & predictions for week 14. Enjoy.

Colts @ Titans-- It is no longer a given that the Colts will win games just because of Peyton Manning. They have glaring weaknesses on defense, and a QB who's suddenly making poor decisions on a consistent basis. The Titans are an equally desperate team, looking to end a five game losing streak. I think they turn to Chris Johnson more in this game against a Colts defense that's 29th in the league against the run. The Titans have the better run defense, the better running game, and they're at home. I like the chances for an upset. PREDICTION: TITANS

Browns @ Bills-- The Browns impressive run since their 1-5 start continues. Eric Mangini, who I have never liked, is my pick for coach of the year. They don't have many weapons, but their best weapon - Peyton Hillis - faces a Bills defense that's dead last in the NFL against the run. The Bills play hard, but haven't learned how to close the deal in the end and win, and will just be outmatched and out-manned in this one. PREDICTION: BROWNS

Packers @ Lions-- The Lions are an improved team despite their record. But, playing hard and coming close to winning doesn't really count for much. Matthew Stafford is throwing this week, but will not start this game. That makes this pick pretty easy. PREDICTION: PACKERS

Giants @ Vikings-- The Giants have played the Vikings on the road @ Minnesota for so many years in a row, I've lost count. Why the game is there every season instead of taking turns is beyond me. Anyway, I don't expect the Giants to get embarrassed by the Vikings the way they were last year. Leslie Frazier has named Brett Favre the starter for this one "...if he is healthy...", which tells me that Favre and the coach are more interested in Favre's consecutive starts streak than doing what's best for the team. The Vikings SHOULD see if Tavaris Jackson is the answer for the future, but they won't. Favre's ego is more important than the team. Wow. Expect the Giants defense to set the tempo early and limit Adrian Peterson's production. Hakeem Nicks and Steve Smith are still banged up, but are expected to get playing time and contribute. Justin Tuck and Jason Pierre-Paul will get at least one sack apiece. PREDICTION: GIANTS

Bengals @ Steelers-- The Bengals outplayed the Saints in the second half last week, but still found a way to lose the game. What happened to Carson Palmer? Maybe Chad "Ochocinco" should have concentrated on improving his receiving skills rather than making head-line grabbing name changes and appearing on reality shows. The defense hasn't just taken a vacation. It's gone. Not seeing much chance for an upset despite last week. PREDICTION: STEELERS

Raiders @ Jaguars-- I still don't understand the Raiders. They can't beat a pathetically-predictable Dolphins team at home, yet managed to shut down Phillip Rivers and the Chargers on the road. The Jaguars have been the much more consistent team and have run the ball better than any team in the NFL the past couple of weeks. Sounds like the recipe for another win to me. PREDICTION: JAGUARS

Falcons @ Panthers-- The Falcons are hitting on all cylinders right now, while the Panthers are simply trying to find an identity and somehow save their coach's job. I guess this is what happens when you draft nothing but O-line, RB, and linebacker several years in a row, and address nothing else. Jonathan Stewart being back helps their running game, but with no legit talent at WR, TE, or QB, I don't see even the possibility of an upset. PREDICTION: FALCONS

Buccaneers @ Redskins-- Donovan McNabb simply doesn't have the talent around him to compete with an improved young Bucs team. And, the talent that IS out there for the Redskins seems pretty disinterested. Perhaps a little less big $$$ free-agency signing and a little more building the team through the draft (The way the Bucs are doing it) would bode well for the Redskins and Mike Shanahan's future. PREDICTION: BUCCANEERS

Rams @ Saints-- I would have been tempted to pick the Rams here in an upset if the game was in St. Louis. But, the Rams have not demonstrated the ability to win on the road consistently. I also expect the Saints defense to bounce back in this one. I like Sam Bradford, but I'll take Drew Brees at home. PREDICTION: SAINTS

Seahawks @ 49ers-- I thought the 49ers actually played a decent game last week until they started missing tackles and let the game get away from them in the 2nd half. I think they bounce back this week at home; regardless of who plays QB. The running game and the defense will determine the outcome. I don't see Marshawn Lynch repeating last week's performance. The 49ers defense plays with some pride at home. Anthony Dixon and Bryan Westbrook do enough on the ground to win it in a close one. PREDICTION: 49ERS

Patriots @ Bears-- The Patriots played like a team possessed Monday night. The Bears have played well, but I'm not convinced they're an elite team. Their defense has played well, calls have gone their way to hand them victories they didn't earn, and Cutler's gotten the job done against lesser competition. Still, I'm not convinced yet. If they beat the Patriots at home, I'll be a believer. Let's see Jay Cutler throw multiple TD's against the Patriots. Until then, I remain unconvinced. PREDICTION PATRIOTS

Dolphins @ Jets-- I'm officially off the Chad Henne bandwagon, though he is far from the Dolphins only problem. When you sign a guy like Brandon Marshall and pay him the money the Dolphins paid him, and you can't get him the ball, I blame the offensive coordinator for that as much as the QB. Chad Henne's regression is alarming. Even more alarming is how unimaginative and bland the offense is under Dan Henning. And, what happened to that running game? You've got one of the best O-linemen in the game in Jake Long, and you can't run the ball? Wow. A team that is 1-5 at home and can only win road games outside of their own division lacks a certain toughness. So much for that toughness we saw earlier in the year. This team is soft. I can guarantee this is not what Bill Parcells envisioned. I doubt he sticks around after this season. This team is a perfect remedy for a Jets team that just got embarrassed last week. Somehow, I don't see the Jets being soft like the Dolphins. PREDICTION: JETS

Broncos @ Cardinals-- The Cardinals have finally done something right. They benched Derek Anderson. They should have never left the team in his hands to begin with. Anyone that knows me knows I've been saying that since the preseason when they released Matt Leinart. How intelligent is that move looking now? LOL. Well, they start John Skelton, which is the right move, but I don't see him outplaying Kyle Orton in his first ever start. Broncos win by a score of 9-6. PREDICTION: BRONCOS

Chiefs @ Chargers-- The Chargers got destroyed by the Raiders running game last week, and didn't have much of a running game of their own. The Chiefs are an even better running team with a better defense. Phillip Rivers won't be able to win this one by himself. The Chiefs are the new top dogs of the division, and will prove it in this contest. PREDICTION: CHIEFS

Eagles @ Cowboys-- The Cowboys have averaged 33 points per game in their last four contests. They face an Eagles team with a QB in Michael Vick who's been banged around a lot lately. Andy Reid recently complained that defenses were hitting Vick too hard. Not sure what his issue is. Last time I checked, this was tackle football. Anyway, expect the Cowboys to get after Vick and do some more hitting, and to once again step it up against another winning team. Another upset. PREDICTION: COWBOYS

Ravens @ Texans-- The Texans simply look to me like a team that doesn't think they should win. They took a sure win at Philadelphia and just gave it away. I expect their generosity to continue agaisnt a Ravens team that also had no business losing last week. Of the two teams, I trust the Ravens to bounce back more. PREDICTION: RAVENS

Week 14 NFL Picks & Predictions

Charlie, I enjoy your blog as I'm sure many others do also.  Keep up the good work, but don't pick against the LIONS defense against Tampa Bay.

Sammy - LOL.  Good one.

Week 14 NFL Picks & Predictions

They most certainly failed.  They failed in every way imaginable.  I guess, as someone once said, "we are who we thought they were"

Week 14 NFL Picks & Predictions

"Let's see  throw multiple TD's against the Patriots. Until then, I remain unconvinced"
I'm not saying the Bears are going to beat the Patriots, but this statement above is a bit hilarious considering the Patriots have the 31st ranked pass defense in the NFL.  If there was a major weakness to this team, it's that.

I'm betting my statement is not looking too hilarious now.  The Bears scored one TD, and it was on the ground.  If the Patriots secondary is, indeed, their weakness, the Bears certainly failed to exploit it yesterday.
Good luck the rest of the way.

Week 14 NFL Picks & Predictions

REALLY??? 9-6 Broncos. You honestly think the Broncos will only score three field goals! C-mon man there is enough weapons on offense to score at least one time against the Cards. Also do you really think the Broncos run defense can stop the combo of Beanie Wells and Tim Hightower. My prediction 17-10 Broncos.

Well, the Broncos scored 13 points.  I was only off by four points on my prediction.
