Detroit Redwings Stanley Cup Champions Future

After many years of underachieving, the Wings finally win another cup. I was really getting tired of the wings outplaying their opponent, and then getting kicked out of the playoffs. I have to say, this is one of the best teams of watched in a while and have a good future ahead of them. I could definatly see them hoisting the cup around this time next year. Even if they dont win it next year, this team will be lifting the cup again, its only a matter of time.

One of the many reasons I can see a back to back championships is the fact that this team will look identical for years to come. The only differances we may see in the next few years is Cheli retiring, and there is a question if Stuart coming back but I'm not to worried about that. Lidstrom has another 2 years on his contract however his resigning isnt even a question.

When Listrom retires, the wings may have to rebuild. However I am not worried about him retireing anytime soon. Right now he is one of the best defensman to ever play the game, and should only retire if he belives he cant help his team (or just doesnt want to play) However in two years he may not be in his prime (one of the best all time) , but he will still one of the best defensemen in the league, which gives him more of a reason not to retire. When he does retire however, he will be on the first ballet in to the HOF and number 5 will be hanging from the rafters.

The rest of our guys will be here for many years to come.

Here to many more cups in the future,

Detroit Redwings Stanley Cup Champions Future

The future is definitely bright. The Wings have excellent depth already at most positions, plus they have plenty of talent in the pipeline. AND the draft is coming up. The Wings always seem to do well picking up some great young players through the draft. I haven't really taken a good hard look at who is available or who the Wings might take, but I'll be trying to do that before Saturday.

One "retirement" question has already been resolved with Hasek making it official. The Wings have only two players who are prime candidates for approaching retirement, Lids and Cheli. I think Cheli may go this year, possibly next. Lids will be around at least a couple more years. Everything else is locked and loaded. I expect management to do all they can to keep as much of this group together as they can, and I expect that the players will help in that effort.

GO, RED WINGS!!

guys like Meech, Erickson, Quincey, Kundl, Abdelkader and Helm will be contributors within a year or two. Plus Filppula is only 24 and Hudler really stepped up in the playoffs. Add Jimmy Howard to that mix, who should become the full-time backup to Ozzie next year, and you'll have these young guys learning from the best and finding out what it takes to win in the NHL.

It's a good time to be a Red Wing fan.

Yea Wings Fan! It could go on for years......hope so!

Helm is awesome! He skates with rockets on his skates!

And then theres Lija, I'm not to excited about him but It seems like I have been the only one defending him this year. Yes he turns the puck over and he could be a bit faster, but he led the team in blocked shots. That cuts the SOG from 10 to 5 (exageration pointing out wings d) If he can fix that turn over problem he will fit into the wings organization perfectly.

Wings_11, fantastic blog. I also believe this team could be very good for a while, and see a strong possibility of a repeat next year. I am not looking forward to Lidstrom retiring, but I believe that Niklas Kronwall can learn from Lids and develop into a guy that can play against other teams' top lines night in and night out.

One thing that really excites me is the young talent still coming up through Detroit's system. Due to injuries in February, we got a glimpse of the future a little bit, and guys like Meech, Erickson, Quincey, Kundl, Abdelkader and Helm will be contributors within a year or two. Plus Filppula is only 24 and Hudler really stepped up in the playoffs. The wings also have Tomas Kopecky coming off of his knee injury. There is another player that will fit in nicely to our style of play. I can't wait for it all to start again! GO WINGS!

If Franzen plays in the regular season like he did in these playoffs, the future looks even brighter for the wings. Now Im not saying Stanley Cup Champions 09 is a sure thing, but I'm pretty confident That the wings can win another cup within the next 4 years. Now this is only if the wings keep playing at the level that they are and Osgood keeps showing up. Im hoping that Howard will be able to start in a few years and win a cup of his own. When Lidstroms retires, I dont think we will be the powerhouse weve been the past few years. However we will still be cup contenders.

Hey Wingnut! I wanted to comment on your last paragraph. Where the heck did Johan Franzen come from? That guy is unreal and glad to say he's on our team. Even after his 6 game layoff with the concussion like symptoms he still came back and made an immediate impact in the Stanley Cup Finals. I can only imagine what kind of Red Wings playoff records he would have crushed had he been healthy all the way through. Let's hope he's healthy next year and starts posting numbers in the regular season like he did this past playoff series.  What's even better about  his performance is the reality of how deep our Red Wings really are. He's not even a first line guy. You gotta love that. Way to go Red Wings 2008 Stanley Cup Champions!
