Well the BYU men's volleyball is strutting their stuff sweeping #5 Pepperdine on Saturday night.  With a 3rd string setter nonetheless.  They travel to UCLA this weekend to take on the Bruins.  UCLA is only one of four teams with an all-time winning record against the Cougars along with Pepperdine, IPSW, and Long Beach State.

Men's Volleyball

5 seniors graduated: Ivan Perez OH, Jonathan Charette Opp, Brian Congelliere S, Russell Holmes MB, and Trent Sorenson MB

This was a pretty good team and held the #1 ranking for a good part of the year. They had a disappointing loss in the MPSF tournament, where they cost themsselves a chance to play for the NC. Losing your starting setter is always tough, but both Reed Chilton and Yamil Perez saw a lot of time on the floor last year, so I don't think there will be a huge drop off in play there. the Libero is set between Venezuelan Joel Silva and Brazilian Leandro Justen. Matt Taylor and Andrew Stewart both played well at OH last year but Perez will be missed. At Opp Kent Tuttle had supplanted Charette as the starter by the end of the year. MB is where we have huge ????? Russell Holmes was an animal. I see guys on the roster but no one who rings a bell or saw much of the court...8 freshman last year and I don't know if any RMs are in the mix. It should be an interesting year...

Men's Volleyball

I love BYU men's volleyball as well and loved watching my cougars perform in the Olympics.  I got excited when I found this blog, because I don't live in Provo anymore, so it is harder to follow the team.  How are we looking for this next season?

Men's Volleyball

Have you checked your blog? I was hoping to have some discussion. The Men's volleyball in the Olympics was incredible. I can hardly remember the last time the US men won Gold. The fact that Kevin Millar and Rich Lambourne were on the team made it all that much better.

Here was the Men's team roster:

Player Pos. College

  • Lloy Ball S IPFW
  • Sean Rooney OH Pepperdine
  • David Lee MB Long Beach State
  • Rich Lambourne L Brigham Young
  • Reid Priddy OH Loyola Marymount
  • Ryan Millar MB Brigham Young
  • Riley Salmon OH Pierce College
  • Tom Hoff MB Long Beach State
  • Clay Stanley OPP Hawaii
  • Kevin Hansen S Stanford
  • Gabe Gardner OPP Stanford
  • Scott Touzinsky OH Long Beach State

Clay Stanley was by far the Team's MVP but Millar and Lambourne played very well.

Men's Volleyball

I thought I was the only one who followed BYU volleyball...It is too bad that they lost in the MPSF final. I think that they would have given Penn State a better run for their money than anyone else did. Great season, just came up a little short. Since I live in WA now I only get to see them when they are broadcast on BYU TV. It has been tough. You can only find Men's college vball when it is Championship time. And even then it is only on ESPN2. It is the best sport in the world that no one watches.

I played in HS - Wayne HS (Huber Hts OH) One of the current players is from Centerville HS ( they were our biggest Rival) Thanks for starting the thread! It doesn't look like any one else caught on.
