Why isn't the NFL Network available everywhere?

The NFL is making a mistake in not having The NFL Network on cable. The NFL network carries games on Thursdays and Saturdays that people are not able to watch. I understand that they want money to put the channel on cable, but essentially the network is a promotion tool for the most watched sports league in America. Shouldn’t they want their “commercials” shown to the most people possible? I am not an advertising guru or anything like that but why would you not want the NFL network available to every house in America?

They are showing the 2009 Schedule today at 2:00 and half of the country will have to tune in to ESPN at 6:00 to get the updated schedule. If it could be watched live more people would be watching the NFL Network Commercials instead of ESPN commercial. I just don’t understand their reasoning for not having it broadcast to every house possible. I think that Roger Goddell is doing a great job, but this is one of his mistakes so far.

Why isn't the NFL Network available everywhere?

I have to say when I go to Colorado to see my fiance she gets the NFL Channel on her cable network (BRESNAN) but she has to pay $3.00 an month. I think that the NFL has joined this countries other corporations in their blood sucking tactics. It is all about the money. I can see why the players wan't more money! I think that it sucks! Now you can see why all the great countries in the history of the world have failed. GREED It Is The Heart Of All Evil!

Super, I can't see the NFL making you pay for your local game, but I can see them putting more prime time games on NFLN.  CBS and FOX spend way too much money for them to take that away from them.

Why isn't the NFL Network available everywhere?

Is it possible that the NFL Network is subtly attempting to establish the mindset in the NFL viewers' mindsets that they should be accustomed to paying to watch NFL games so that it can begin to transition to a system where it will broadcast all NFL games and require viewers to subscribe in order to tune in?  They would still, of course, rake in the ad revenues as well.

If the dish companies can figure out new technologies so the signal is not lost during rain storms, then there would be no need for cable.  Don't get me wrong, Direct TV has room for improvement but it is the best as far as sports and overall programming.  Find a place on your property to get the signal.

mmagettepack,

very few people can't get a dish...and they should make friends with a dish user.

I don't know why cable companies always have problems adding new channels that people want, but DirecTV doesn't...
