Posted on: September 2, 2008 11:42 pm

Let me start off by thanking everyone who has voted here so far. Round 2 had less upsets than the first round did but I was still surprised by some of margins of victory in a few of the match ups. Some of you left some great comments along with your choices and I hope that continues.

Here are the results from round 2 as well as my comments on them. Not everyone voted in every match up accounting for the fact that the vote totals are not the same on all the match ups. I did have to cast one vote to break a tie.

Vote In Round 3 For Your Favorite Movie Stars

Thanks again for the blog and the topic!

Cary Grant - Tom Hanks is the logical choice, however we still have, The Man with one Red Shoe, The Money Pit and Joe vs the Volcano, Cary Grant did not stoop that low.

Harrison Ford- Three movie series made him, and he deserves it, despite the fact the Indy signed on to do Indiana Jones and the Stupid Space Ship.

Denzel Washington- He was right in Crimson Tide Gene was wrong, case closed!

Mel Gibson- So many great roles, solid guy, plus he is Riggs!

Al Pacino- He has also made some awful movies, and he has the over the top speeches, but you have to respect him.

Robert Redford- Great actor, Great Director, bad Politics, 2 out of three not bad.

Jack Nicholson-Iconic

Clint Eastwood- Great actor, Great Director, class act.

Actresses:

Demi Moore

Julia Roberts

Meryl Streep

Sandra Bullock

Audrey Hepburn

Renee Zwelleger

Julie Andrews

Elizabeth Taylor

Vote In Round 3 For Your Favorite Movie Stars

Alright here goes again:

1)Tom Hanks vs. 17)Cary Grant   - Too many great movies inlcuding the best war movie ever "Saving Private Ryan"
2)Harrison Ford  vs. 18)Dustin Hoffman  -  Gotta go with Han Solo...
3)Denzel Washington  vs. 19)Gene Hackman  - It hurts but I had to take out Lex Luthor...
4)Paul Newman  vs. 13)Mel Gibson - Newman's a better actor but I like the movies that Gibson has been in better...
5)Al Pacino  vs. 12)Jimmy Stewart   - Pacino hasn't made a great one in a while, but the way Jimmy spoke always bugged the hell out of me.
6)Robert DeNiro  vs. 11)Robert Redford - I think that this was the hardest choice for me...
7)Jack Nicholson  vs.  10)Sean Connery - James Bond ... nuff said.
8)Clint Eastwood  vs.  9)Morgan Freeman  - Dirty Harry...

Actresses:
1)Jodie Foster vs. 16)Demi Moore - Sorry Clarise, gotta go with Demi...
2)Julia Roberts vs. 15)Rita Hayworth - Gotta go with the classic beauty...
3)Sophia Loren  vs. 14)Meryl Streep  - Again...
4)Sandra Bullock  vs. 13)Marilyn Monroe - Guess I like underdogs in the womens bracket.
5)Katherine Hepburn  vs. 12)Audrey Hepburn - Do I really have to pick one? Can I keep them both??
6)Angelina Jolie  vs. 11)Renee Zwelleger - For me this was picking the lesser of two "evils"
7)Susan Sarandan  vs. 10)Julie Andrews - It was the singing, but please don't ask me to watch "the Sound of Music" again...
8)Halle Berry  vs. 9)Elizabeth Taylor - I like Halle, but again I really like the classic beauties...

Vote In Round 3 For Your Favorite Movie Stars

1)Tom Hanks vs. 17)Cary Grant (Edge to Hanks for versatility)
2)Harrison Ford  vs. 18)Dustin Hoffman  (No great reason, just preference of characters.)
3)Denzel Washington  vs. 19)Gene Hackman  (really tough one for me; I picked GH because he plays both good guy and bad guy roles convincingly)
4)Paul Newman  vs. 13)Mel Gibson  (WIlliam Wallace takes it)
5)Al Pacino  vs. 12)Jimmy Stewart  (for "Harvey" alone...and it seems like all of Pacino's characters just end up yelling a lot.)
6)Robert DeNiro  vs. 11)Robert Redford  (Compare and contrast "Untouchables" with "Awakenings"...amazing transformation.)
7)Jack Nicholson  vs.  10)Sean Connery (Maybe not a great reason, but I  find JN to be just as creepy as his characters.  I don't think he's acting.)
8)Clint Eastwood  vs.  9)Morgan Freeman (Nobody can squint like Clint, but I've gotta give it to MF.)

Actresses: (sorry, not a lot to say now.....I'm getting sleepy)
1)Jodie Foster vs. 16)Demi Moore
2)Julia Roberts vs. 15)Rita Hayworth
3)Sophia Loren  vs. 14)Meryl Streep (Another really tough one.)
4)Sandra Bullock  vs. 13)Marilyn Monroe
5)Katherine Hepburn  vs. 12)Audrey Hepburn (okay, hardest pick yet.)
6)Angelina Jolie  vs. 11)Renee Zwelleger
7)Susan Sarandan  vs. 10)Julie Andrews
8)Halle Berry  vs. 9)Elizabeth Taylor

Wow!  These certainly aren't getting any easier, are they?  Once again, great job!

  • Tom Hanks- Forrest Gump alone, but he has an incredible body of work.
  • Harrison Ford- Dr. Jones
  • Denzel Washington- That tear running down his cheek in Glory says it all.
  • Mel Gibson- I just prefer his work
  • Al Pacino- Hoo Ahh
  • Robert Deniro- You talking to me?
  • Jack Nicholson- Although he plays his stich in most roles; he's still got some of the most memorable lines.
  • Morgan Freeman- He can drive Miss Dizzy and accompany Robin Hood through England.

  • Jodie Foster- Clarice cant be beat; although loved Moore in Disclosure.
  • Julia Roberts- always the girl/woman you want to pull for
  • Meryl Streep- classic actress defeats an eternal beauty
  • Sandra Bullock- this is an acting poll, although I think she's also hotter than Marilyn.
  • Katherine- Had Audrey lived longer this might be closer, but gotta go with Katherine.
  • Renee Zellweger- She too has had me since hello.
  • Julie Andrews- I really like both women; but in the end Mary Poppins by an umbrella
  • Elizabeth Taylor- Although i am not a huge fan of either of them, I have never really liked Halle as an actress.
