Following the success of the Greatest Album Ever in Rock and Roll history contest started by DDriver I thought the same type bracket challenge to determine who the users of these CBS boards would choose as the greatest Performer / Band in the same genre would be a natural.
I would like to run a bracket competition for both single artists as well as groups. I am pretty sure that many members of nominated bands will find themselves in the "singles" brackets also.
I am curious to see which of the non obvious choices will join The Beatles, Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who and few others in the 16 for Bands as well as who joins Eric Clapton and others as single acts.
So let the nominations begin. Please submit your top ten for consideration in both categories.
I will compile the top 16 for both and submit any ties to the group for a vote off.

Top 16 Bands / Artists of Rock & RollI went back and played out the entire round of 16. My personel winners were Rush and Hendrix. But since i'm voting only in the finals, I went with: The Beatles and Eric Clapton. In my personel round of 8 I had a really tough time with The Who/Rush decision. Had to go with Geddy, Alex, and Neil. They are so freakin' good live! |

Top 16 Bands / Artists of Rock & RollThe list must have Led Zeppelin is in the mix, as most folks do. I've only recently - last year- gotten into LZ, they rock out like crazy, it must have been awesome to see these guys live back in the day!

Top 16 Bands / Artists of Rock & RollRock and Roll is the most overrated, overplayed genre, somehow outdoing country music. Nonetheless, I'll put my 2 cents in. In no particular order... Carlos Santana Grateful Dead Bob Dylan Peter Gabriel Little Feat AC-DC U2 REM Beatles I could list about every blues artist that most of the "rockers" have ripped off over the years, but most of you clowns probably wouldn't know who they are. The Rolling Stones have milked the art of the Greatest Hits tour bone dry. When's the last album they put out that anyone actually bought? Tattoo You from 25 years ago? Nirvana? 5 albums of screaming and a premature death and suddenly they're "legends"? I'll give Pink Floyd some points for originality, but frankly, I haven't hallucinated in years so I've got no use for them. Metallica is an enigma inside a riddle. How on earth those guys made money by any means other than scrubbing toilets is beyond me. Ozzy might be the most untalented illiterate shmuck to ever make a dime in music. Ooooh, he bites the head off a bat. The only thing more pathetic than his music is that his offspring have somehow parlayed daddy's fame into their own little sideshows.

Led Zeppelin The Who U2 The Beatles Metallica David Bowie Rolling Stones I agree with Genesis up to and including the 1983 album Genesis. Lamb Lies Down is a great album. Unfortunately, that band completely jumped the shark when Phil Collins started doing solo stuff (Can't Hurry Love??) and also went on Miami Vice. Looking back, the song "Illegal Alien" was the warning of things to come. |
