The Best In Television

I want to thank all of you who helped make my first effort at blogging a rewarding experience for me. I did enjoy reading most of the comments the blog generated about the musicians who were nominated and being voted on as the best acts in Rock & Roll history.

I asked for and received a few suggestions for what type of competition would be a good follow up. With several friends of mine currently running other musical themed bracket competitions here I decided to go in a different direction with this one and focus on a subject that most of you are very familiar with, television. Television has bought us events that will remain in our memories for as long as we live, both joyous and horrendous. It has made you laugh and cry as well as taken you to places you could only dream of visiting in person. Just think of the musical acts you would never have seen perform if not for them having appeared on television.

Television, especially with the explosion of the number of specialty channels on cable, has something for people of all ages, tastes and backgrounds.

I am asking the readers of this blog to name their 10 favorite sitcoms of all time as well as their 10 favorite dramas and westerns. I will then set up brackets and we can do the tourney style competition. I would also like you to name the 5 most memorable things you have ever seen on the tube. I will compile the numbers on those and list what the group comes up with as a top 10. I know the submissions for the most memorable will depend a lot on the ages of who replies. If you were born much after 1960 Neil Armstrong's walking on the moon will not be on your list.

If this blog is as popular as I hope I will seed the top 32 nominees for sitcoms and dramas. I am guessing for westerns I will not get enough of a variety of choices to seed 32. Time will tell.

Please try and remember to rate your fellow posters efforts here and even add them to your favorites list if you so desire.

Thanks in advance for your participation.

-Kudos too on mentioning Bizarre with and all-time great funny man at the helm, John Byner.  A dang great mimic and impersonater he was, too...

vikings I am not censoring where any show goes except for Westerns on the Drama list. If you want to put In Living Color on your sitcoms list please do so. I agree it was an hysterical show.

Then where would "In Living Color" fall in? For me, other than Carol Burnett, In Living Color is one of the funniest shows of all time. I just didn't think it was a comedy, more of a variety show.

The Best In Television

So far we have had 173 shows mentioned in all 3 categories. I wonder if we will make it to 200.

cubuffan, A few non traditional sitcoms have been mentioned. Carol Burnett's show was truly a classic, but since variety shows have gone the way of the Dinosaur I didn't include a category for them. I would have expected it to reach at least the semi's if I had. I would have predicted a Burnett/Ed Sullivan finals.
