Well here are the match ups for round 2 of the voting for the best shows in the history of television. You need not have voted before to do so now. So tell your friends and let's see how many votes we can get.

I decided to post the number of votes received by each show in the first round on a separate page.
You will see that the total number of votes in a few match ups are not the same as a few voters did not cast a vote in every pairing. Here is the link if you are interested: http://www.sportsline.com/mcc/blogs

Next week I will add the brackets for westerns to the blog. I am still accepting nominations for them, up to 10 shows can be named, as well as the 5 most memorable things you ever saw on TV. As usual I will only be casting a vote if one is needed to break a tie.

Please take the time to rate your fellow posters here, I am sure they will do the same for you. Of course I thank you all for your contributions, without them this blog would not be worth much.

Vote in round 2 for the Best in Television

Well Yank, I'd really like to find time to work on my own blog. If only it were as good as yours, then I'd have an excuse. Instead, here I am, succumbing to my own compulsions to explain my answers instead of just voting. I feel like John Adams instead of John Doe!!!!  Just can't bring myself to just vote like a normal person. OK, my preamble is complete. Here's my vote:

The Dramas

(1)Hill Street Blues vs. (33)Star Trek   This choice is sacrilegious to all the trekkies, but Hill Street changed TV, not just cop shows, dramas more than any other show ever.
(2)NYPD Blue vs. (31)Quantum Leap   Again, I was a fan of both, but one is sci-fi with a little polotics thrown in, one couldn’t even be shown in the city I live in its first season because  of its shocking content!!! (first amendment alert)
(3)Hawaii Five vs. (31)Picket Fences   I’m still waiting for a wave as big as JACK LORD’S HAIR!!!!!
(4)The Sopranos vs. (29)Northern Exposure    Rough draw for a really good show, but IMHO, nothing should ever beat the Sopranos. The music, the language(both its realistic use and misuse), drama and comedy in the same show, great acting, and The Sopranos still beats it(did you really know which show I was describing? That’s a tough choice!!
(5)Miami Vice vs. (28)Mannix    MANNIX was my father’s all time favorite, bit no show brought music to TV like MIAMI VICE!!  MTV with a plot.
(6)24 vs. (27)Magnum PI  ABSTAIN never watched a full episode of either.  24 if you need a tiebreaker.
(7)C.S.I. vs. (26)L.A. Law     Tough choice again as I like both, but have to give CSI its due for innovative photography. LA LAW was very good, but seemed derivative of Hill Street.  Think Harry Hamlin ever second guessed himself for leaving???
(8)Rockford Files vs. (25)Homicide Life On The Streets    WOW!!! These may be the two most realistic shows to ever be on TV. Bayless & Pembleton vs. Jimbo & Angel. G. vs. Rocky. Have t flip a coin……./…&hell
ip;…………
HOMOCIDE. How do you expect me to sleep tonight??!!
(9)CSI Miami vs. (24)Dexter   One is a spin off, the other is a fascinating look inside the mind of a sociopath with scruples(oxymoron of my favorite kind). If more people had cable, this would be no contest. David Caruso is still waiting for that Emmy he thinks Dennis Franz stole!!!
(10)Lost vs. (23)Dallas    Ones a really good unbelievable soap for adults, one isn’t good.
(11)Perry Mason vs. (22)The Wire    ABSTAIN   didn’t watch either one.  The Wire for a tiebreaker.
(12)St. Elsewhere vs. (21)The Twilight Zone   DUDE!!!!  I’ll never get to sleep. St. Elsewhere is just GREAT, BUT I still have dreams about some episodes like THE GREMLIN.
(13)E.R. vs. (20)The Shield   ER started strong, but it’s really just St. Elsewhere meets Dallas. Vic Mackey has to be one of the BEST anti-heroes of all time. Can’t decide if he should get caught or get promoted.
(19)House vs. (51)Marcus Welby M.D.    One generic medical show vs. one very feisty one. Truth is, I wouldn’t be a patient of either one given a choice.
(15)Law & Order vs. (47)I Spy    L&O deserves better, but I Spy might be the first drama with a black main CHARACTER, not caricature.  Plus it’s a tennis show!!!
(16)Law and Order SVU vs. (48)In The Heat Of The Night   Still can’t get Archie’s face to fit that southern accent.  But I loved Stieger in the movie.

The Comedies    &nb
sp;  WHAT!!! NOT DONE YET!!!

(1)Seinfeld vs.
(32)Newhart(Chicago)     It’s a losing position, but I just never really got the whole Seinfeld thing. Plus, I really like shows with shrinks.
(2)Cheers vs. (34)The Wonder Years     Easy for me to pick Cheers. I’ve been to the bar it’s based on. Never been to Melville’s though.
(3)M*A*S*H vs. (30)Curb Your Enthusiasm    UH,,,,,,,  one’s great TV, the other is greater. I mean, Monk’s shrink interned on MASH!!!
(4)All In The Family vs. (36)Alf     COME ON MEATHEAD!!!!  Only a DINGBAT debates this.
(5)Married with Children vs. (28)Fresh Prince   Neither is what I would call great TV, but Al Bundy is the most underrated QB in the league!!!
(6)Simpsons vs. (27)Family Ties    Great cartoon vs. Great ratings. Give me HOMER!!
(7)Andy Griffith vs. (26)Everybody Loves Raymond   Sorry Ray. Barney may be the only character on TV who’s sorrier than you. Let yourself out in the morning, Otis.
(8)Barney Miller vs. (25)Threes Company    The best squadroom cop show on TV vs. a guy with that arrangement and can’t score pre aids.  Dietrich is still my twin brother!!!
(9)Taxi vs. (41)Frasier   OUCH!!!!  Gotta step on my own toes here. Frasier is the one spin off that was better than its genesis, but TAXI went where TV comedy had never been. Reverend JIM, the first hippie burn out to get a starring role. A burn out living in a burnt out apartment. The irony.
(10)Happy Days vs. (42)Get Smart   Sorry about that, Ritchie. I still laugh at Eddie Murphy calling Ron Howard  “Little Opie Cunningham.” Unfortunately, that funny moment is not from Happy Days.
(11)Honeymooners vs. (43)Gomer Pyle  OK Private.  You are DISMISSED!!!
(12)Sanford and Son vs. (21)Beverly Hillbillies  Get the truck Jethro. Looks like its time to leave.
(13)Soap vs. (20)Night Court   Sorry Bull, but the puppet is funnier than Dan.
(14)WKRP vs. (19)Gilligans Island      GINGER or MARYANN………&hel
lip;………&hellip
;…… I  know!!!!   WKRP. What other show ever dropped turkeys out of a helicopter
(15)Cosby Show vs. (18)Friends      I’ve still got kids living in my house. I just wish I still had friends.
(16)I Love Lucy vs. (17)Bob Newhart(Vermont)   Well, I’ve liked  everything I’ve ever seen Bob Newhart (everyman) in. Why stop now.
