WHAT IS YOUR ALL TIME FAVORITE SONG

Nice idea for a blog, though tough to narrow it down to one. But I can't say here as I have in other places, my pick as favorite and best is:

CAN'T YOU HEAR ME KNOCKING- THE ROLLING STONES

This starts out as a basic hard rocking 3 minute Rolling Stones song like Monkey Man or Midnight Rambler, very good songs in their own rights. It is after the coda which begins the instrumental section of the song that it really starts to soar. You get several meter changes with latin, jazz and raggae rhythms mixed in along the way. The rhythms played by Keith Richards start to really mesh as Bobby Keys begins his sax solo, which is a classic hard rock sax . That builds to a cescendo  and is then replaced by a  volume drop as Mick Taylor's guitar starts to build and build in intensity and climb higher up the scale to the highest notes on the guitar. Charlie Watts' use of the high hats accentuates the jazz tinge that the song is going thru. Finally, Richards takes over again with a nice little ascending riff as Keys joins back in on the Sax and Mick Taylor mirrors what Richards is doing until the song reaches it's ending punctuated by Bill Wyman's bass run thru the final three measures. To me, this is more of a rock orchestration than just a rock song. There is very little to connect the instrumental part to the opening part of the song other than the key it's in, much like the movements in a classical piece or some of Pink Floyd's best work. Layla ia another song that is constructed in the same way and is another of my favorites for the same reasons.  Most of side 2 of Abbey Road fits into this catagory of songwriting and rank as favorites of mine as well. Still, for all time favorite, I stick with Can't You Hear Me Knockin'.

WHAT IS YOUR ALL TIME FAVORITE SONG

I don't know what happened, I made a post and listed like 100 songs but it said there was an error. I'm not willing to make that list again, so I'll just list my favorite song and artists.

I'm a huge country fan so I like pretty much anything country.

All time favorite song: All I Ever Wanted - Chuck Wicks (I know it's brand new but that song is the bomb!!!)

Favorite artists:
Tim McGraw, Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood, Chuck Wicks, Jack Ingram, and Johnny Cash.

5's for all. Love Peace and Afro Grease

WHAT IS YOUR ALL TIME FAVORITE SONG

Sorry to go obscure, but I have an unhealthy obsession with everything made by SUN KIL MOON (a.k.a. Mark Kozelek a.k.a. THE RED HOUSE PAINTERS).  It's hard to pick just one song from them, but I love "Carry me Ohio".

Great blog even though I don't care for many of the listed songs.

jlee-  i detest Metallica, but you picked about the only 2 songs I like from them, so kudos.

Hey  Rockton - boy another toughie - my choices definitely are British Invasion - and one American

Itchycoo Park - Small Faces
Matchstick Men - Status Quo
Can't Explain - The Who & The Seeker
Heart Full of Soul - Yardbirds
It's My Life - The Animals
Ramblin' Gamblin Man - Bob Seeger

But the final has to be something totally Primal to start a good fire - the winner:

Don't Bring Me Down - The Animals -

the combination of keyboards and "sexiness" of Eric's vocals gets me every time.
