Rock and Roll legends best of the best

I can't disagree with any of the above, all greats.  I really like Carlos as well.  But being a lifelong fan of Rush I have to send my vote for Alex Lifeson.

Rock and Roll legends best of the best

C'mon Rok, the 80's were full of wrong answers to this questionWink
Honorable mentions to Stevie Ray, Jimi Hendrix and Brian May. . .all making a case in their own way...
But the king of kings is Jimmy Page

Sportfan, I love questions like this because there's never a wrong answer.  LOL

My vote will always go to Carlos Santana as the guitarist I love to listen to the most.

However, the late Steve Gaines (Lynyrd Skynyrd) was a rising talent at the time of his death, but never gets enough mention in forums like this.

A far out pick to many will be Lindsey Buckingham, of Fleetwood Mac.  He may be a prima donna, but the man can flat out play a guitar.  Check out any of their reunion DVDs of the past eight or nine years.  He's tremendous in those, even if he does come across as a jerk.

I know I'm going to get criticized for this but, John Fogerty of Creedance Clearwater Revival was an amazing guitarist.

Stevie Ray Vaughn is my pick for the best ever. Yes there are a whole lot more, but when he plays you can feel the Blues.

Rock and Roll legends best of the best

I would have to say that Jimi Hendrix is the best guitarist to ever grace the face of this earth, but as someone has already said, it is simply a matter of opinion. I am a huge Hendrix and Led Zeppelin fan. I have every album/song that I know of for both artists. In fact, I was already playing Hendrix's "Red House Blues" before I even came across this blog... The things Hendrix does with a guitar... the sounds he makes... they really do take you to another world. And Jimmy Page is insane too. I would have to say that I prefer Led Zeppelin as a whole to Jimi Hendrix/The Jimi Hendrix Experience/Band of Gypsys, but commenting on the two as guitarists alone, I would have to give the edge to Hendrix. But both are certainly two incredible musicians - two whose sounds have never been replicated as far as I know of. This modern music isn't really music, per se... It's all about getting rich, and getting ho's, and getting money or whatever. That's not music. Listen to Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven (BBC version - that's the best one I've heard) or Rock and Roll or When the Levee Breaks. Or listen to Hendrix's Red House or Manic Depression or Rainy Day, Dream Away... Now that's music... But that's just one man's opinion... Clapton and Slash and whoever else has been mentioned are ridiculous too...
