Limited # of AS and SS ratings avail, as per cbs.

Ok. So now we have been informed by the GolfGuy that only a limited number of Superstar ratings are avail. throughout the cbs site.  Never mind that the site adds new members on a daily basis.  And yes, probably loses some, but they stick around forever it seems, just check your profile.  And we were also informed today by GolfGuy that the decrease in everyones level of ratings, re: 99 to a 96, 98 to a 96, 97 to a 92, etc., is because... and get this:

Guys, As baseball starts back up this week with spring training, different patterns have emerged. Many dormant Community baseball users have started posting again and have bounced back to their previous high standing in the Community. Remember, your overall reputation score is based on all of the Community members. There are only a certain number of Superstars, All-stars, etc ... That is the reason some of you have experienced a slight drop in your reputation over the last week or so. I would expect a little more ‘reputation’ reshuffling as the baseball season gets into full swing. Thanks, Golf Guy which seems to not follow the official cbs policies of :

Things that will hurt your reputation:

  • Infrequent visits to the site
  • Infrequent submissions to the message boards
  • Rating content in a haphazard or contrary manner
  • Not participating in other community activities such as gaming, fantasy and contests
  • Using offensive language when interacting with the CBSSports.com community

IGetNoRespect, You are right in a way. Members are competing for a limited number of spots for each reputation level. Our current system will not allow all 400,000 Community members to become a Superstar even if every member posts 1,000 things per day. Golf GuySome comments from those affected were:

40 Below:     Right but why should some MLB poster get their status right back if the rest of us are active community members? That makes no sense. And why can't everyone be superstar if others consider their posts to be good enough and they are active in the CBS community? Why are we automatically prejudicing people to be stuck at rookie, pro, or all-star - that hardly seems fair or gives an equal voice to everyone -

IGetNoRespect:   I didn't know it is the job of a Community's members to compete against each other. Isn't it the job of members of a community to interact with each, enjoy each other's company, bust each other's chops now and then, and maybe try to learn something once in a while that you didn't know before? Right now, this place is like watching a train wreck. You want to walk away, but you just can't take your eyes off it. Please, Golf Guy, Cole, Blackbird, Admins, help us out. Inform us as to what is going on in more substantive ways than has been done already. We're big enough to take it. It feels like certain things have been done to weed out or isolate some "undesirables," but a lot of others are now caught in the net and not enjoying it very much.SF S 78:     Yeah, I went from a 98 to 95 overnight. Bogus!STARIS1:     went from a 96 to a 92 over night, no warnings or reason.jabronski5375:     Ever since the changes my rating has been stagnent now it just took a six point drop. Can someone please tell me what the deal is. Or better yet make a better set of guidelines so that everyone knows what to do.Carboh:     I agree! To make up a 4point drop because of returning, taking time off posters is a penalty on alot of us!If you need a guiding light, follow the torch of FlyFlyersFly:   Umm, you guys are going to fix this right? There is no way you can possibly place a limit on the number of Superstar members, when you are using a scoring system that bases you on how many teams and players you can rattle off. 40 Below is absolutely right, every change to this site you've guys made has been for the worse. And yeah, why aren't fantasy sports included in the scores anymore? Many of the posters here put a lot of time into their fantasy teams, why shouldn't it give you some reputation points? You guys should really pay attention to what the community members are saying here. Your system punishes people who sometimes post about thing other than sports, and just want to BS with other posters who have become pretty good online friends after being here for so long. Yet it rewards someone for adding all 30 or 32 teams and 20 players to the bottom of their post. Someone posted a picture made out of dashes and dots and it recieved a score of nearly -15000 and that dropped the entire thread score, so the thread dropped to the 3rd page, when pretty much every other post was relevent to the NHL and had good scores. Doesn't this sound like a messed up system? How can you guys actually think this scoring system is going to work for the members of the community?Obviously I feel the current system is mired in a quagmire of Keystone  Cop Business Manual Techniques.  What's your take?  Have you been affected?  Lost the right to change your av?  Can you still glog?  Or maybe you weren't affected.  I'll enjoy hearing from you.

Be safe. Enjoy.  And may the darkhorse come riding a carrying my Royals.....and may by Chiefs find the guiding light......

Im not entirely convinced that the internet giving a voice to every idiot out there is a good thing, so CBS making access to public forums harder to get doesnt rub me the wrong way at all.  It seems to me that this site operates more on a ranking system 1 - 1,000,000 than on a system of levels.  If everyone is competing against each other like this and the site does apparently have everyone ranked already then why dont they let everyone know what their ranking is.

A members standing should be based on that members contributions to the community.  I would also think that the should be able to set something up so that it works by percentages.  maybe everyone can't be a superstar or all-star but atleast 40%+ should be able to.

I actually thought this WAS what happened, epozz!  I follow hockey and baseball, mostly, and a little boxing, but I don't post very much on boxing or hockey, so I figured my status had slipped to a 96 because of inactivity relative to baseball season.  But just this week, it's back to superstar and I haven't really done anything to get it up there.  Very disturbing.

I was just awarded AS status this week.  OK, I guess.  Got to change my ava.  Anyway, I'm a football fan, don't care a lot for baseball.  Have you seen the scores these guys are getting for their posts?  It's outragious.  Do the scores follow the season?  Will we all get higher scores posting during March Madness?

Hilarious Carboh.  Same exact thing happened to me.  What shall we do?  Went from a 96 to a 89...now an AS...a sad sad AS.  It's too much to bear..I can't do it.

Although i'm relatively new to this site, i think you guys are putting to much into the whole rating system. I have seen some pretty dumb posts and comments coming from supposed AS and SS members. Who cares what your rating is?

Check this out - straight conversation I had with CBS sportsline help yesterday:

Is it really CBS intent to go after all 100,000+ people that posted a blah thread last week and warn them for trolling? Surely you have better things to do than ban people that intentionally posted on those threads. The users on those threads knew what they were doing. There is nothing in the TOS that says that I can not make a post - and the intent of these posts was not to cause scrolling problems, or make it difficult for other users to read the material.

Would it not be better if you actually focused on real trolls? Those people who have come onto this site with the intent of constantly harassing other users?

It's bad enough that your "user dump" and inactive members becoming active have caused faithful sportsline participants to become unable to glog like they used to, but to then have us lose ratings points because of an error on your part is quite simply wrong. I and the other users being warned by admin#8 and so forth should not be punished for CBS' programming errors. We only did what was being allowed under the CBS site. If you don't like it, why not simply delete the applicable threads and posts like CBS so often does anyways?

I don't expect a resolution - CBS has been slow to act all week. I fully expect my warnings to stand and my reputation to go down. If I were not already involved in fantasy baseball, I would probably say adieu to this site, as many other users are as well.

To make changes for the better is one thing. To abuse the members of this community at your beck and call with unjustified warnings and unannounced changes that negatively effect the way in which we use the site - the dropping of many superstars who were avid gloggers is one example - is unfair. Maybe CBS should rethink what users should be allowed to glog games.

One last note - while this help line does not review warnings. I should fully expect to see all of CBS Admins warnings relating to trolling for a poster who used blah to be overturned. It would be a shame if CBS can not see the fallacy in their own logic over this ordeal.

To boot - you still have not fixed the problem, and any number of entries can still abuse your scoring system. It was better when the max was a 100 and you could see who had reviewed you.

Thanks for your time and consideration - as I hope that whoever reads this will actually stop to ponder and do something about it.

And this is the response from CBS

Thank you for your email.

Please click on the following link to learn some useful information about your rating:

Preview your post to get an overall idea of how your post is going to score. You can see the estimated ‘Score’ on the bottom of the preview page.

Note: The estimated score does not factor in reputation. If you're an amateur or rookie, your score will be close to what is displayed on the preview. If you're a superstar or all-star, expect the actual score to be higher because it adds additional points if you have a great reputation to begin with.

Also, make sure you familiarize yourself with the following frequently asked questions too:

Have a great day.

That is all well and good - except this response did not address a single one of the issues at hand. So I am trying again. Want to bet I still don't get a good answer. Hooray for peon ineptitude.

This still does not solve the issue that CBS and specifically Admin #8 are being prejudiced and biased in who they warn and when. While you have effectively targeted anyone who spoke out on the feedback message boards - many people were allowed off scot free. If you are saying that those links you provided legitmize CBS being allowed to profile and specifically target only certain people who abused a CBS error, than I am afraid CBS is in the wrong.

Please remove all Admin #8 warnings related to these blah errors for every user given one or go through all 400,000+ users and warn every single one who made a blah post for trolling. Your choice - one or the other - there can not be an inbetween here. If a few of us are guilty of "trolling" according to the TOS and Cole than all of us are.

It seems that in this case justice really is blind and applicable only to a few when many are guilty. I guess I should just give up on being able to get anything accomplished here. Maybe it is time for me to a make a new id - like a troll would do?

I have written 2-4 blogs a week since October which increased my reputation to 99 only to come in one day and fall to 96.  This in spite of my offer to post a topless photo of me if I get to a 100 reputation....Oh well, I gues I can stop working out so hard until after baseball season in November.

CBS needs to get a grip...

Dear Community Administrator if I would submit to a urine sample every day prior to logging onto your site, and tested negative for PED's would I get my reputation restored to pre A-Freud admission.

Would I get my January rating restored to SS status? (this is the killer I was downgraded for Jan, last week,..that would be two weeks into Feb.)

Would I get my February rating restored to SS status?

I know, I know,........everyone is a suspect until proven otherwise, just a thought.
