Joe Gibbs Racing plans to enter Nationwide Series driver Joey Logano in his first Sprint Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway with an additional six more events possible in 2008.

The "Sirius Speedway" radio program has learned from a source close to the Gibbs camp that Logano will get his first opportunity to pilot a Cup car when NASCAR returns to Richmond in September.

The Toyota will carry Gatorade sponsorship and the starts will prepare Logano for a full run at Raybestos Rookie of the Year honors in 2009.

The source also reports Logano will pilot a Venturini Motorsports entry in the upcoming ARCA RE/MAX Series event at Talladega Superspeedway in October.

Logano Cup Debut Set

Logano is ready now. Mark Martin stated on trackside the other night Logano was ready for Cup at 16. But due to the age rules he couldn't run in any of the major three until 18. He will be just fine, and I would bet the farm he wins Rookie of the Year in 09. Not to mention a couple of wins also. It's just my opinion.

I don't know if he is that good, I do know the 20 car that he is in was getting alot more horsepower than the other cars on the track leading to the toyotas having to scale down the horsepower. So I am leaning that it was more the horsepower advantage than the driver because no matter who drove that 20 car they won in dominating fashion. That is not going to happen for him on the Sprint Cup level, he is going against the best in the best equipment at Richmond. Good luck being more than a footnote.

Logano Cup Debut Set

Its good that some new younger guys with talent are getting brought up. However, my concern comes from it being the last race before the Chase starts. With so much on the line for so many other drivers and being a short track, it doesn't seem like it is best siuation to bring up someone who is a rookie in the Nationwide series only running a limited amount of races so far in his career. The intensity of the drivers trying to secure a spot in the Chase is going to be too overwhelming for him, I just don't see the logic in bringing him in for this race as opposed to bringing him up on a larger track when there isn't so much at stake for the other drivers on the track.  Granted he does have to get some experience on the Sprint Cup level if he is going to fill a seat next season, but they knew for a month or so now that Tony Stewart was leaving, Gibbs should have started grooming him already.

As far as sponsorship, I thought I read that Tony Stewart made a deal to take Home Depot with him if he were to go into business with Haas. It's hard to see Home Depot not wanting to follow Stewart since the two pretty much coexist.

jj was rushed in by joe's son. joe gibbs if you look does not rush his kids. denny hamlin is a prime example of that. tony is also. even though tony is twice the driver denny is. jj felt pressure from the moment he walked in there.

I have heard that this kid  is going to be the next "thing" in Nascar.  I have not seen him race a lot, is he really that good?

Let's hope JGR is not rushing Joey like he did JJ Yealy,  I can just hope if he puts Joey into the 20 full time, he will also put Joey in the Nationwide series full time.  I would hate to see such a talent have problems and trying to find himself by competing with competition greater than he can handle at this age.  I know there is a big difference between JJ, who drove Open Wheel Cars, and Joey who drove late models but to rush a driver this young.

Well lets just say here is to Joey's success.

Logano Cup Debut Set

I thought I read somewhere that Joe Gibbs Racing was going to ease Joey Logano into the sport by letting him run full time in the Nationwide for awhile.  With the possiblity of running six more events in the Sprint Cup Series, it seem JGR is looking to bring Logano up to the series now.

benwa,

My assumption is Home Depot will stick around with JGR and sponsor Logano next season on #20.  Stewart is leaving JGR AND Home Depot to drive the #14 for Office Depot and Old Spice (split sponsorship).  I think Gatorade is only sponsoring these few races.

I believe BDR has 2 cars entering next season, and neither has sponsors as of yet (as Cat left #22 at the end of the season).  Maybe Gatorade will land here, as these lower-marketing teams cost less to sponsor.  Just a guess.

Good for Logano, the kid has proven he can drive a racecar.
