During the opening package, Lyoto Machida received the loudest cheers, which is something of a surprise. The crowd is much more filled out now than it was earlier and looks close to full although you can see empty seats here and there.

Round 1. Sherk is pushing forward with punches. They clinch, but neither man works hard for a takedown. Edgar shoots for a takedown but Sherk easily blocks and Edgar quickly gives it up. Edgar lands a nice combination, the best thus far in the fight. Edgar goes for a single leg, but Sherk defends.  They each throw knees from the clinch. Edgar lands another hard right to the jaw of Sherk. Edgar grabs a guillotine but Sherk seems fine. He’s got a thick neck that is going to be hard to catch in a guillotine. Sherk is losing this fight on the feet but is making no effort to bring it to the ground. He needs to utilize a better gameplan. 10-9 Edgar.

Round 2. Sherk continues to move in with punches while Edgar relies primarily on counterstriking. Edgar is doing a good job staying out of the reach of Sherk's arms. Edgar lands a hard kick to the body. Still Sherk stands. Edgar with a nice body kick and knee. He lands a low kick while Sherk mostly just moves in with punches. Edgar continues to land the better combinations. He hits Sherk right on the chin with a punch but Sherk walks through it. Edgar continues to hit Sherk with the better strikes. Sherk will follow in with punches of his own but land few. Edgar goes for a takedown but Sherk blocks. I don't understand what Sherk is thinking. He refuses to use the very best aspect of his game, the aspect of his game that got him so far, and is willingly losing a kickboxing contest. 10-9 Edgar.

Round 3. Loud chants of "Frankie." Sherk finally goes for a takedown and gets it, but Edgar gets back up. Edgar shoots but it is blocked. Sherk goes for a takedown but Edgar defends. Edgar continues to land the better strikes standing, and has made good use of his reach and lateral movement. Edgar gets a guillotine at the end of the round and that’s it. Edgar 10-9, 30-27 Edgar. Very good performance by Edgar, kind of a mystifying one by Sherk. Unanimous 30-27 decision for Edgar. This has been a night of upsets.

Winner: Frank Edgar, Unanimous Decision.

Sean Sherk vs. Frank Edgar

Sherk is trying to prove that he has good stand up.  He need to utilize what brought him to the dance.  Take him down and beat his head like a drum.  He is smart though, I have talked to him a few times, he know what is going on.  He is stuborn and trying to prove a point.
