Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin

The crowd is heavily behind Griffin, who gets a really big positive reaction. Silva comes in to loud boos although there are cheers mixed in. Silva makes faces as the crowd boos and bows to the crowd. Future NFL Hall of Famer Junior Seau is in Forrest Griffin's corner.

Round 1. "Let's Go Forrest" chants begin as they feel each other out. Forrest throws some leg kicks. Anderson catches one and looks for a big punch, ala the fight with James Irvin. Forrest with a high kick that's blocked. Anderson moves in with a series of hooks. One drops Forrest, but Forrest recovers. Anderson then lands another. Anderson is so much faster than Forrest. Anderson encourages Forrest to throw and then moves in with strikes. He's jabbing, bobbing and weaving, avoids Forrest punches completely, drops him with a punch and looks to finish on the ground. Forrest is back up. Forrest is throwing wild punches but they're totally missing. He throws two big punch attempts that Anderson completely avoids and then he throws a picture perfect counter that drops Forrest for the KO. Anderson Silva just humiliated Griffin. And Griffin runs out of the Octagon to the back. Forrest is booed leaving and Anderson loudly cheered.

Winner: Anderson Silva, Round 1, KO

There are big MMA fights that end spectacularly and decisively. But I can't recall such a big fight in modern UFC history where one of the combatants just toyed with the other. Anderson avoided Forrest's striking attempts as if Forrest were no threat whatsoever to him and picked him apart with ease offensively. Griffin looked completely and totally out of his league here.

Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin

They booed for two reasons, one he got knocked out with a jab and two he wasn't even knocked out, he just went down and started waving Silva off basically just giving up.  I watched it at a local sports bar and felt ripped off, so I'm sure the people that paid $500 or more for tickets felt even worse.  Don't get me wrong Silva looked good and is deserving of the praise, but I don't think Forrest is getting a bit of a pass b/c of his reputation as a tough guy.

Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin

What's next for Anderson??  He destroys everyone in 2 different weight classes.  This guy is the most humble classiest guy in MMA.  It is really too bad Chuck and Randy are past their respective primes.  Since he won't fight Machida I don't know what will be next.  I do feel for Forrest as I like him a lot as a fighter.  Don't really know what happend with his meltdown after the fight and I hope he is ok.  Congrats to the Spider on another destruction!

Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin

Wow, is pretty much all I can say! Anderson toyed with Griffin, it wasn't even a sparring match! Forrest was knocked out, even though Silva was walking backwards, the snap in that jab was obvious, plus, Forrest had been rocked 2-3 times before that. I don't think Forrest gave up, I think that was his attempt to protect himself through his foggy and dizzy state. I didn't like the way he ran out of the ring, just as he did with Keith Jardine. But I can't help but feeling sorry for the oversized " howdy Doody " look alike! Whats next for Silva??? Diggstown, 12 fighters vs Silva in an all day affair....lol

Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin

I totally agree with this. All the punishment that Forrest has taken in the past..and he now gets KO'd by a jab? are you kidding me Dana White?

Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin

That knock out was sick....let me say this...if you have hit someone or been hit on the button like that.....then you know it does take a huge shot to put someone down...Griffin was not out but he knew he didn't want to be in that position vs the most accurate striker in UFC history.....I guess Forrest was wrong....he can be broken.

P.S. Hey Forrest...........RE TIRE NOW !!!!!!

Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin

I think this is the only  fight that i had called right, did not like the undercards that much, beyond Fedor Emelianenko, i would say UFC will find another fighter who can have a chance at least to stand Silva's well rounded game.Too bad they can't convince GSP to move up, which is a good move by him,Silva will also have the upper hand if they meet in my opinion.Thank You again Todd  Martin it was nice to follow the fights through your blog, i had fun reading them  :  )

Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin

In his last fight Griffin was worked, and now this he was dominated in. This signals the end for Forest.

Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin

I have to agree with you on those two assessments. Perhaps, Forrest is turning into Chuck Liddell when it comes to getting knocked out. Silva has knocked a man out while holding his opponent's leg! Silva never seems to lose his balance and thus his punches come in solid. His center of gravity is astounding. I think that is something that cannot be taught, only improved upon. I hate to say that it may be time for Forrest to think about hanging it up. Lost pride can be regained in other venues (instructing, coaching, etc.), but you cannot replace your health. Let the young Lions challenge the King of the Pride.

Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin

I love Forrest Griffen and I love Anderson Silva, but am I the only one that thinks Forrest gave up? I mean Forrest Griffen, the guy who has been in many wars in the ring, gave up. In my view after Anderson threw the counter that floored him the second time it looked to me like Anderson was circling to let Forrest get back up so he could have some more fun with him. The fight didn't end until Forrest threw both arms in the air to signal he was done. That is when the Ref stepped in. I have seen Forrest take many more devastating punches, and survive worse punishment. I mean, am I the only one who sees the fight this way?
