Fear mongering? Or don't know what to do?

"Irreversible recession" Obama warned in his op ed piece in the Washington Post.  In all my schooling in Economics, macro and micro, I have never heard the term.

What does it mean? I suppose it means Obama doesn't know what to do other than spend money to stimulate the economy with wish list pork spending and if he doesn't get his way we are doomed.  How can the Hope & Change candidate become so doom and gloom so quickly?

Because there are myriad of ideas being floated that could stimulate the economy.  Things like tax cuts for individuals and business, you know, to let the people decide how to spend their money in their economy. This thing will take care of itself, you can bet on that.  When the government got involved in the Great Depression they prolonged it by 7 years by eliminating competition, instigating protectionism policy, granting sweeping power to Labor, legalizing collusion and anti-trust, wage fixing above market value, and the list goes on. Principles of Socialism, but I digress.

What gets me really irked by his Carter-esque gloom and doom was this comment:

He rejected the argument that more tax cuts are needed in the plan and that piecemeal measures would be sufficient, arguing that Americans made their intentions clear in the election. "I reject these theories, and so did the American people when they went to the polls in November and voted resoundingly for change," he wrote. Talk about over reaching the results of the election.  Wow, the arrogance is astounding!  The people did not vote for a Pork Stimulus Package when they elected him president.  I am absolutely certain I did not see that plank in his platform when I vetted him all last fall on my blog.  I don't remember any Obama supporters chastizing me last fall that I had ommitted it either.

The honeymoon for Obama ended far sooner than I ever thought.  The media is now awake and will pick him apart.  I would now put his odds at re-election at 1 in 4.

On the bright side of the economy, consensual sex is still free! Thank goodness....

Sunnyside, how long he has been in office is irrelevant to the facts. 66% of Americans are currently against this troth of Government waste. From the research I have done, economist estimate 12 cents of each dollar spent actually goes to stimulus related projects. I implore all of you to read the actual stimulus package, it is frightening where some/most of the money is allocated to go

Well no its not irrelevant.  He was elected in November and now at the start of February 66% of americas population are againest what was one of his main platforms to be elected?

Imo we need to let him do the job he was elected for.  If there were better ideas on how to deal with this perhaps McCain could have done a better job with his campaign.

Pork has been used to describe wasteful spending since I came to this country in 1986. Come on Sunnysidez.  I said I put his odds at re-election at 1 in 4.  Not that he wouldn't get re-elected. He has the ability to get re-elected but so far he has not shown it.  Pouting, chastizing, preaching, ...they all speak volumes about his leadership style.  So far I am not impressed.  If he called out the Democrats who are laying the pork onto the tax cuts in the stimulus plan he would be making a good start instead of smacking business upside the head and treating them like idiots.  Those are the folks who will help pull the recovery off.

BTW Sunny, Barack's second biggest donor after trial lawyers was big business.  Fact. How do you like his odds of re-election given that?

As for my senators, Kerry only responds with mass produced party line responses.  Kennedy, well, if you even get a response you are lucky.  Still, we are the very vocal minority, we will not be going away any time soon.

On another note, I especially liked Pelosi's remark that the U.S, economy will lose 500 million jobs a month with out a stimulus passed.  Pretty serious since there are only 305 million Americans.

Pork is the new buzz word of the last few weeks.  I swear I've heard that word more than anything else.  But political buzz words used by republicans and those employed by fox news help inspire fear in those who don't really know whats what.

It hasn't even been his first 100 days and you're already saying he won't be re-elected.

Come on now.

We all knew it would be worse before it got better.

You are absolutely correct about the New Deal prolonging the Great Depression. It is an inarguable fact that the world economy was in full recovery by the 1933-35. Yet the US economy was stymied until 1939-40 when we began to build up for our inevitable entry into WWII. King Barry is proving to be like a little child when he does not get his way. Throw a fit and pout about how it's not fair.

I am still waiting to hear how STD research and new computers for the USDA are going to stimulate the economy. I have called both of my senators (both staunch Dems) as well as e-mailed them and have not heard one peep yet. I have not even gotten a canned answer, just that it is being looked at thoroughly. Not an answer in my book.

Keep up the good work Cyndi, this is always a great place to come for intelligent discussion.
