Dusty Baker, aka The Worst Manager in MLB

Dusty Baker is an awful major league manager. When he was the manager of the San Francisco Giants and the Chicago Cubs, I respected him because he took the Giants to the World Series and the Cubs to the NLCS and I was hoping that he would be able to take the Reds over the hump this year. So far, Dusty has not looked like the manager I knew in the past and instead makes the decisions of a senile, old man. Some of Dusty's decisions that should be questioned.....

1) Why the faith in Corey Patterson? Patterson is absolutely awful. Almost anyone would play better than Corey. Game line today: 0-8, 3 K's. He certainly contributed to the Reds loss today. Patterson is a holdover from Dusty's tenure as manager with the Cubs so he brought him over to the Reds, and with unfortunate consequences.

2) Unusual, and usually idiotic pitching changes - I've seen too often where Dusty has brought in pitchers to relieve the starters and see them getting their brains bashed in, even though the starters are going strong. I don't know if Dusty has a clue how to manage the pitching staff.

3) Interesting lineups - Dusty puts unusual lineups on the field sometimes. If I were the manager, I would have my best players play every day and maybe give them 1-2 days off a much. Baker gives these guys way too many days off, especially with the rookies because he probably doesn't want to hurt their development. Case in point: He has been slow with 1B Joey Votto, even though Votto is completely ready for the major leagues.

I hope Dusty starts becoming a competent manager again because many Reds fans like me are getting impatient...

Dusty Baker, aka The Worst Manager in MLB

Times have nit changed the worst manager in major league baseball. Why the owners of the reds put up with his stupid moves beats me. He ruined the Cubs young pitchers and now is doing the same thing in Cincy.

I mean, let's face it. Dusty is here to stay this year and probably for future seasons. He is (or was) a well respected manager and the Reds will give him all the time in the world to fix the ever persisting problems. I was thinking this was the year the Reds would finally go over .500. and make a push for the Playoffs, but that is a pipe dream unless Dusty Baker shows that he knows how to manage a ballclub.

Koala - As we have discussed on the Reds boards several times, we all think that Dusty Baker is not the man for the job in Cincinnati. He is trying to revert to what has worked for him in the past. Which is a limited amount I'm sure. My problem is that General Manager Walt Jocketty nor Owner Bob Castellini have stepped in. I'm sure they can see that people like Corey Patterson and Matt Belisle aren't producing. I am sure they are hearing it from the fans. I don't know whats going to be done, but I would almost guarantee that is this team has a losing record come June 1st, there will be changes. None to soon for most Reds fans. If we can't win with the roster we have now, they should shake it up a little.

Sorry to say, I think the Reds are stuck with Corey Patterpuff for the year. I don't think Castellini is willing to eat the contract. Matt Belisle should be on the Greyhound to Louisville this week. Dunn and Griffey are big question marks. I believe Jr. goes, but I believe Dunn could sign a long term deal. Just my opinion. This team is carrying a lot of dead weight. David Weathers is done. He is a casualty. He performed well enough last year to earn a spot on this team, but he has lost it. He has no velocity on his fastball, and it does not sink. Thus he is giving up more long balls. Not what you need from a set up man. Scott Hatteburg is taking up valuable pine space and should be traded. Why is the team carrying three catchers? Josh Fogg, I really can't figure that one out. There's problems for sure. Not all of them can be put on Crusty Faker, but most of them can.

I'd rather have Jerry Narron than Busty. Bring back Pete Mackanin!
