MLB: How much does a win cost?

Well, I got curious about how much each team spent per win in 2008, so I rounded up some data and figured it out, and I thought I would post it here for you all to enjoy:

 

(I used a simple formula:  Payroll / Wins = Cost per Win, or CPW)

 

AMERICAN LEAGUE:

Baltimore Orioles:  $988180.12

Boston Red Sox:  $1,404,631.97

Chicago White Sox:  $1,376,734.85

Cleveland Indians:  $974,939.10

Detroit Tigers:  $1,874,124.28

Kansas City Royals:  $776,606.67

Los Angeles Angels:  $1,192,163.33

Minnesota Twins:  $706,622.35

New York Yankees:  $2,349,231

Oakland Athletics:  $639,561.68

Seattle Mariners:  $1,934,327.57

Tampa Bay Rays:  $451,758.74

1.  Marlins - $259,958.33 (84 Wins, missed Playoffs)

2.  Rays - $451,758.74 (97 Wins, AL Champs)

3.  Athletics - $639,561.68 (75 Wins, missed Playoffs)

4.  Twins - $706,622.35 (88 Wins, lost tie-breaker game to the White Sox to miss the Playoffs)

5.  Pirates - $736,795.27 (67 Wins, missed Playoffs)

 

FIVE HIGHEST CPW:

1.  Yankees - $2,349,231 (89 Wins, missed Playoffs)

2.  Mariners - $1,934,327.57 (61 Wins, second worst record in MLB)

3.  Tigers - $1,874,124.28 (74 Wins, last in AL Central)

4.  Mets - $1,553,858.18 (89 Wins, missed Playoffs)

5.  Braves - $1,422,555.81 (72 Wins, missed Playoffs)
