0-for-19 ... and then an infield hit

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The last team to go through the first two games of a World Series without a hit with a runner in scoring position was the 2001 Yankees.

And they were just 0-for-4 total, for the two games.

The Phillies didn't make it through two full games, but they were 0-for-19 with runners in scoring position for the series before Shane Victorino's one-out infield hit in Game 2. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it's the second-longest 0-for with runners in scoring position to start a World Series. The Dodgers finished the 1966 World Series 0-for-22 with RISP.

The Phillies went 0-for-13 in Game 1, becoming the first team to ever do that in a World Series game. Four teams had gone 0-for-12, most recently the 1980 Royals, in Game 5 against the Phillies.

0-for-19 ... and then an infield hit

The stat is now 1-28 with RISP. Phillies have left 22 base runners in 2 games to TB's 7. If the Phillies can get some of these guys across home plate, there's no doubt they are the better hitting team. Still to be playing like that and be even in the World Series at a game a piece and have home field advantage in their favor, not to mention only be outscored 6 runs to 5 in 2 games ?

For Phillies to win, they need to get just 1/3 or those guys across the plate. The better team is the Phillies, they just haven't gotten the clutch hits to indicate it. I've heard how the Rays blew game one and a perceived balk lost it for them ? Yeah right, the Phillies left 11 runners to TB's 3. It's a wonder the Phillies didn't beat them by 5+ runs, and the experts think a balk was what killed the Rays chances of being up 2-0 ? That balk, that only puts the guy that was thrown out at 2nd base on 2nd base in a game TB was losing.

Tonight, Phillies leave 11 more runners to TB's 4. It's yet another wonder why the Phillies didn't win this game by 3+ runs, considering TB got 2 more than they did in game one ?

And what's more, some of the calls on pitches by TB pitcher were favorable close calls. The pitch that hits Rollins jersey, I hope the experts give that the same press they gave the non-call balk ?

In spite of the RISP issues the Phillies are having, Ryan Howard was a swing away from tying this game. I thought the AL was superior going into this, but the reality is the Phillies aren't capitalizing, part of it is pitching, but more of it is lack of clutch hitting. Even if the last out of the inning in those innings where runners are left in scoring position for the Phillies, that player bats .200, they go to Philadelphia up 2 games to none.
