Scott Williamson to sign with Tigers

Right-handed reliever Scott Williamson, who hasn't pitched in the big leagues since the middle of the 2007 season, is close to signing a minor-league deal with the Tigers.

Williamson, who turns 33 next month, was once a dependable middle man, with 344 career appearances and a 3.36 ERA. He was hurt while pitching for the Orioles in 2007, and has bounced around since without getting back to the big leagues. He has impressed some scouts in workouts this winter. The Brewers were among the other teams interested in signing him.

Scott Williamson to sign with Tigers

Seems like a good low risk possibly high reward move.  Scott Williamson hasn't been relevant for quite some time, but he also always had an outstanding K/IP ratio and could definitely help the Tigers if he's healthy and ready to go.  It's a move that may be useless, but it can't really hurt the Tigers chances of improving the pen, so I'm all for it. Cool

Go TIGERS!!!

unfortunately, at this point I think Dave Dombrowski will sign anyone.

Serious, if Dennis Eckersley threw a ceremonial first pitch at some game, DD would get in touch with him.

Why doesn't Dombrowski sign Jason Isringhausen.   He's coming off of elbow surgery, but might be worth a shot.  He's always been a pretty good closer.  Cool

As if the Tigers' bullpen isn't already full of a bunch of bruised-up bums... Stop signing injured players.

Safe signing no real down side, I was surprised Williamson is only 33.  A comeback for a 33 year old reliever isn't too much of a longshot.

I'd say Izzy would be the same kind of deal.  Reasonable contract, no ego or disruption, and if he turns it around it could be huge.  The difference between fading in August or making a little noise.

Just make sure you don't boo him because if you do he will give the fans the bird!  He did this in Cincinnati!

Well I think its a smart move we need middle relief, and this doe'nt come with a high price tag, so if it doe'nt work out it's not a big loss. But if it works that just extra arm you can count on and pitching wins championships.  But I still think the tigers do need to go out and get some more arms.

Hey Tigers, I was reading on google that Bruce Sutter is wanting to make a comeback. I think the Braves are still paying him, so you could get him for the minimum. Interested? Better hurry or the Yankees will scoff him up soon!!!

Tigers need to find that arm in their own system, to go out and spend money on old tired pitchers is just a waste.

It is time, with contracts coming up, to get the bullpen health from within.
