NEW YORK -- We'll know more Friday night, when the new Yankee Stadium is full. We'll know more in a couple of weeks, when the Yankees play here in a game that counts.
We'll really know more in October. Not necessarily this October, but whenever it is that this Yankee Stadium has the kind of night that made its predecessor famous.
So what do we know today, the day the Yankees worked out in their new home for the first time?
Well, we know that the Yankees already love it. We know that it looks great, maybe even as great as advertised.
"It's spectacular," Mark Teixeira said. "It doesn't disappoint."
It figures that the players love it. Their facilities are a huge improvement over what they had in the old stadium.
There are, as advertised, computers in each Yankee locker.
"[Manager Joe Girardi] can send you a message to say he needs to see you," Andy Pettitte said.
Well, I guess theoretically he could.
As for the parts of the new stadium that you'll actually see, the high-resolution video board in center field is pretty impressive (as all the new video boards are. The feel of the park is good, with enough hints of the old stadium mixed in with the comfort we expect in a new place.
"It just looks beautiful," Girardi said.
They love it. Over the next few weeks and years, we'll see if you do.
